Can some one please give me a link to or explain in technical terms why you should change the fuel pump when going BPU.

I had a row with a mate over this as he reckons that the fpr will keep a constant pressure and there is no need for an uprated pump?

I just want a good right up or link so I can tell him to fook off and shut up:D

Thanks

He is correct in a way, the PFR doesn't maintain a fixed pressure though, it maintains a fixed pressure OVER the boost pressure. So a stock one will have the fuel pressure at 36psi at 0psi of boost and 46psi at 10psi of boost and so on. So the more boost you run the higher the fuel pressure. But that's not why you need a better pump, fuel pumps are rated to flow a certain amount of fuel (e.g. 255 litres per hour), and that's in ideal conditions at exactly the right pressure and voltage from the battery. If you go beyond what it can supply you're in trouble.

yeah, not enough fuel = dead engine and expensive bills

why risk using a tired old pump whose flow may be reduced and not up to the job? spend £80 for piece of mind or put asside a few thousands for an expensive rebuild when you melt a piston...

bit like asking why do you need an afr gauge once the car is set up... well it is a safety measure (like oil pressure gauges etc).
