Getrag
I've bought some 18" rims and gonna buy tyres for them. Im sticking with 235 front and 255 rear but what profiles to go? Im unsure as I've only had 17's before. Ive read 40 front and 35 rear, is this correct? Also, are there any things to be aware about regarding different profiles. Im guessing the lower the profile the more expensive they are.
nickyboy
Not sure...but I run: 245/40/18 285/35/
Matt 6
Depends what width your rims are mate. I have got 8.5J x 18 fronts and 9.5J x 18 Rears and I use 235/40 R18 front and 265/35 R18 Rear. Hope this helps.
Pixelfill
I run 235/40/18 265/35/18 with 235/40/18 and 255/35/18 as you've suggested you'll have a 1.5% difference in circumference between fronts and rears. 235/40 & 265/35 = 0.4% 235/40 & 275/35 = 0.7% 245/40 & 285/35 = 0.5 % check out this page for everything you need to know about tyres. Pixelfill
I run 18/245/35s on the front, and 18/285/30s on the back. What size rims (rim width) have you got Bobbeh ? Mike
Bobbeh
9 at front, and 10 at back iirc.
chilli
currently I have 235/35/18 and 275/30/18 which fit well but might go up just one size when they wear out...

Nick
Front (18*9) 245/40ZR18 Rear (18*10) 275/35/ZR18 This will give you the closest rolling radius to stock.
nismo_lp
So your ment to have a small profile tyre on the rear wheels??? Why?
Bobbeh
Because they're wider, its only a % of the width in height, so wider they are the lower the profile figure usually.
Rob Davey
front 8" wide rim 235/40/18 Rear 9" wide rim 255/35/18 The difference in rolling radius is negligible especially when you bring into play the rears wearing out more than twice as fast as the front! nismo_lp
i was going for 235/40/18 (front) and 265/30/19 (rear) so the rolling rad is about the same... im i doing the right thing by doing this?

Gamer
Front 9.5" wheel 255/35/18 Rear 10.5" wheel 275/30/
Jake
Rather than 285/30/18, I prefer a 285/35/18 on the rear. The slightly higher sidewall makes the ride a bit less harsh and the slightly increased circumference makes the Supra speedo closer to being accurate. Bobbeh
I think the 30 profile is slightly less radius than stock and the 35s are greater, the only problem I have with 35s is the rubbing you get, you dont get any on 30s.

Jake
My car doesn't have any rubbing issues with 285/35/18 on Lexus 18x10 GS300 Sports wheels and stock Bilsteins. Maybe if your wheel offset isn't exactly right it will be a problem.
Nick
This is a nice website for calculating tyre sizes. http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html I've just checked mine again against the standard and they're not the closest you can get, but there's not much in it to be honest. I remember now though, that they were the best compromise for the width of the rim as well. I can't imagine that having different size wheels will do the handling any favours. I wonder how your offsets compare... oh and he was on stock UK suspension.
Gamer
My rear's are +45 offset, I am running coil overs (Teins), so that might have more to do with it.
Jake
Yeah well my corning is a bit more sedate than Aaron blasting around the Nurburgring like an exocet I spect that's the big difference here
