paulrenn
Hi all I'm considering a '94 Supra with 100K miles, and would like to hear from those folks here with higher mileages, if they found any reliability problems at these levels, any parts that need replacing apart from normal maintenance schedule, etc. I know in general the cars are very reliable, but age and wear do take their toll eventually. My last Supe only had 40,000 miles so would like some opinions please.
Guest Terry S
JB's car has some serious miles on, so he could comment. Manuals need the flywheel changed but you'd notice a nasty vibration if this was the case.
Ian C
Check the intercooler for crumbly fins/damage, and the radiator too. Both can be replaced easy enough. PAS pumps may squeak too. -Ian
oxygene
Hi Mine has got 129ishK IC changed last year (stock one bought from another MKIV owner) TC's changed this year (see thread) Apart from that, cambelt, surpentine belt, rocker cover gaskets, main oil seal. Maybe one or two other bits, can't remember still quite blonde. Still goes like the $H!T, couple of rattles (headlining and elasewhere), but dont care. Willson
Mine has 102 K or so and is fantasic. I bought it around 18 months ago and have only had to buy a arb pin (£50) because it was knocking the suspension. Otherwise just servicing. It had clutch, radiator (stone) and cambelt done by the previous owner. Intercooler could do with changing. There is almost *no* rattles/squeaks, even on rough roads, *much* less than the brand new mr2 and celica I just went out in ! Oh..and it pulls like a b*****d ! Terminator
Originally posted by Willson Oh..and it pulls like a b*****d ! Glad to hear its going so well. There is a MKIV that is serviced by Chris Wilson, that has over 300K on the clock and is in regular daily use. Apart from discs and a water pump, I think it has not had anything else changed apart for normal service items. I sure Chris could advise.
Justin
Mine has done about 90K. You may need to look at the brake calipers. Can seize up so get new ones or at least refurb em. Disks too might be worn. As above mine goes like stink. PS - Termy your sig says no bling yet your head is made from polished titanium and you have Paul E's L.E.D eyes. Whass goin on there then? AndyG
Mine is nearing 100k now (N/A though if that makes any difference). Used everyday from knocking around to and from work to long runs at the weekend. Running nicely - average of 22mpg if I go easy, drops to 17mpg if I have fun. I suspect the rear bushes will be needing replacement soon - but this is probably down to going over 30 large speed bumps every day for the last 6 months. Get a slight rattle every now and then from what feels like the front centre of the car at 2.2k revs in 1st n 2nd gear, but it goes away when warmed up. Not unduly worried and will get it checked with the next service coming up shortly. Smooth running - ie blip the throttle in neutral and the revs rise and fall nicely. Dip the clutch when going and the revs drop as they should. No tappit noises, quiet engine running. Moral of the story - 100k miles is nothing to these beauties, just make sure they have been looked after
Branners
mine is on 123,000 miles now. Things to look out for... IC is screwed, all the fins have gone so its cooling is diddly squat if its a UK car then the diff cooler pipework is probably shot if its been used hard then the turbo seals or stem seals might be a little worn, mine smokes a bit on startup but nothing to worry about. The bushes all round on the car will be worn. Theres a mounting bracket for the gearbox which is bushed, when the clutch is changed its worth checking that to see how bad. My car was unmodified all the way to 113,000 miles, its now running 1.2bar all the time with a decat, nurspec, airfilter and boost controller and it still shifts. Possibly worth getting a compression test done just to make sure its all okay, but apart from that theres no other obvious problems. JB
