Matt 6
Well this will be my first year actually going to the British F1 GP and I can't wait. We are camping there from Thursday till Sunday and should spend most of the time with a beer in my hand. We are taking the caravan down today to make sure we get a good pitch for camping and leaving it there all week. Is anyone else from the forum going down? If so are you camping and staying all weekend?
tbourner
Can't afford it. Went to qualifying about 4 years ago and that was expensive enough!!!
merckx
If so are you camping and staying all weekend? I am. Leaving home on Thursday morning, coming back after the race. Normally we take the tent, I'm taking the van this time so I can sleep in it. Hopefully we'll get the usual spot, been there about 7 or 8 times. You'll be very surprised at how loud they are, it's best to have a small radio so you can tune into Silverstone radio for the commentary so you can follow what's happening. I hope the caravan is still there when you arrive.
AJI
I'll be there on the Sunday. Sitting at Copse hoping to see some carnage. !!
edd_t
i used to go all the time, but got fed up with not being able to see anything I bought grandstand tickets along the pits one year. was very disapointed. ya best bet is to take a fold up seat, walk around the track on the saturday, pick a good spot near a tv and a few corners, then get there very early sunday morning to put ya chair there

terribleturner
I'd love to go to Silverstone but i don't think i could justify the money
Steve
I'd love to go to Silverstone but i don't think i could justify the money It cost me £160 for the ticket for Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Then approx £30 each for the camping between 6 of us.
terribleturner
Actually that's not to bad i guess. I thought it was about 3 times that. Still doesn't beat the £60 i paid to watch the OZ GP in 2001 for the 4 days they did it over. May possible see if i can get a ticket or 2 now. Anyone any recommendations on the best place to hang for a Sliverstone Noob??

terribleturner
HHmmmm, £189 for a place at Farm is the cheapest now
Bobbeh
Thats disgusting... compare that price to what they pay to see the Indy 500 or even the F1 US GP.

Matt 6
Well I have just got home, caravan is pitched and the awning is up. Some friends of ours are staying down there all week so they are looking after it for us. I have seen F1 before just not at the British GP so know what I am letting myself in for. I was at Silverstone last month for F1 testing, great day and good weather. We have all got Copse A Grandstand Seats for the weekend, cost us £260 each for the weekend. The camping has cost us £135 for a 6 berth caravan for the complete week, which I think is pretty good. We are smack opposite the track too. Camping should be £15 a night till Thursday then £25 a night after that, that is for 1 caravan/tent and a vehicle. Any extra vehicles that join you are £15 each. We got some good discount as we were one of the first people there, just a couple of Germans there this morning when we got there. We have saved £45 which will go towards the beer fund!! Hopefully we will be visiting the Redbull Entertainment area too whilst we are there for a few beers in the evenings with the staff and drivers, looking forward to that!! merckx
We ordered our tickets last November, they better come in the post tomorrow. The facilities at the circuit are pathetic, they've hardly improved at all since I started going 15 years ago.
Bobbeh
... and you're paying how much for tickets? As usual the Great British ripp off.
Whitesupraboy2
Thats disgusting... compare that price to what they pay to see the Indy 500 or even the F1 US GP. people fly to america to see the Grand prix and back for around same as the top rank ticket for silverstone weekend which is over £
merckx
General admission is about £95 for the 3 days, much cheaper than grandstand tickets. You've got to get in reasonably early if you want a good spot though, you wouldn't have this problem if they built terracing right around the circuit. It was £40 back in 1992. Bobbeh
They pay about $10-20, not £! to see major sporting events in the US, NASCAR, Baseball, Basketball etc ... this is why it enrages me even more when they rip off everyone here and dont even facilitate the event you're paying so much for! AJI
Yeah the prices are absolutely stupid. I'm only going because I got the tickets free !! LOL My bro's girlfriend is a model who is doing a photo shoot for a magazine and she has been given a few tickets (all gone now unfortunately). There is no way I'd pay the asking prices for Silverstone....its not the most spectator friendly circuit to start off with. Its a great drivers circuit but for spectating I prefer Dinnington (although I'd guess Brands would also be good although I've never been to that circuit). tbourner
I went to the A1 GP at Brands last year, it's a brilliant circuit as you can just walk round the whole thing and see the race from every corner and straight! It does force you to the track side at some bits though so I'll be taking the ear plugs I forgot next time!!!
merckx
No tickets in the post today as promised, bloody typical! We ordered them last November aswell.
