Daston
Hi guys Turned my air con on for the first time in quite a while and it seems to squeel when I pull away quickly. Is this the pump or belt? If so how much do you think it would cost to put right? Also anyone else notice a drop in performance with it on wouldnt think I would notice it this much. (yeah i know its an NA!) Mine was the crank itself... must have a look asap, it could fall of and cause all sorts of internal damages. The reason for mine squeeling when the aircon was switched on is the sudden strain the air con compressor makes. Dan
Jake
Mine was the crank itself... No it wasn't. It might have been the crank pulley though.
squiffy
could be a worn belt (hopefully!) or at worst the compressor starting to seize up

Daston
It seems to be making the squeel when I turn the engine on without the air con now, is there anyone in the Taunton area who can take a look? If so how much?

If so how much?Mate, check the crank pulley hasn't sheared. It's sounding very like that's the problem. You don't want it to come flying off, it can make a real expensive mess. With Jake on this one.....check it fast as well, its a heavy old belt and if it flies off if something slips while your driving, it can potentially smash up your engine bay plastic bits and rip pipes off in the process
Scooter
Ok stupid time (I am willing to wear a "D" hat) just looked under the bonet and had a poke about and well to be honest what on earth am I looking for the belt looks like a belt and the cam's look well camy The pulley that could be fubar'ed is the lowest one the belt goes round and dead central. You might not get a great view from the top, but try and look in from the side, over the battery or airbox, and see if the pulley is directly inline with the others (aircon & PS on the right and Alternator on the left if looking from the front of the car). Whilst looking get someone to turn the wheel or turn on the aircon. You could also take off the undertray and then you can get a real close look at the pulley from underneath........... supRo
Try getting underneath the car. Use a feeler gauge and measure the inner and outer parts of the pulley. The space on a good pulley will be about 1.5 mm. The space on a bad pulley will be about 3.2 - That's when mines became noisy and I replaced it straight away. It could well be the other pulleys or the tensioner. Have you replaced the belt already? Schtuv
My old Eunos used to do this - there were two reasons behind it, both of which may or may not apply to a supra; 1. Battery was low 2. Magnetic clutch on the aircon was slipping Just a thought...
