Guest Garfy
Well guys I got this done thursday evenning and I have finally stop driving it long enougth to post an update, all I can say is "WOW" what an improvement, the car sounds awsome and is noticably quicker especially above 4000rpm when the second turbo comes in, its a different car, the throttle response is better to, I will post pictures as soon as I can. Off to drive it again now, bye. Garfy
ivan
What did you get in the end Garfy? (Silencer, pipe size, tailpipe etc)
Guest Rickster
we did 2.5 inch pipe throughout, removing the second cat in the process, 3 inch bore straight through boxes x2, with the pipework swaged out to fit, 4.5 inch slash cut tailpipe. The pipework is all aircraft grade stainless 2mm wall so its good and strong, plus all the welding was done with stainless wire, not your normal mild steel wire some exhaust makers use, so it wont rust.....The car sounds great, not too loud, just sweet....nice burble on tickover, you will have to ask garfy about what its like at speed. These boxes are made by a company called TAU and are not like the powerflow boxes.....for a start they are not magnetic therefore the stainless is purer, they are also mirror polished and are tig welded along the seams unlike the folded powerflow stuff which can leak. To be honest 2.5 inch is taking the bending to its limits with a Bendpak machine, but as they say the proof is in the pudding, glad you like it Garath. Oh yeah, one other thing.......cheers for making the RX8 seem like a peddle car on the way home after the drive in yours Garath!!
grimreaper
i have been quoted £470 by power flow for one cat taken off and single stright back, and a de cat pipe?

Guru
What does it sound like?
Guest Garfy
Excellent, it's just right very deep and not too loud, and the car is much more responsive, and feels quicker, the best thing is that at motorway speeds with the windows up you can hardly hear it, but at slow speeds it sounds awsome. Guest Rickster
the system could easily be produced using just one box, I dont think it would be excessively loud on the TT, on the N/A it would probably need 2 boxes.... Plus remember that the system is from the first cat back....removing one cat at the same time, so your getting alot of pipework for your money
Guest Rickster
Update:- We have just purchased the latest pulse mig to enable us to weld the system together even neater with less splatter, anyone who has welded stainless will be aware of the problems with splatter when welding with stainless wire. This new welder was alot of money and practically eliminates it, leaving a nice clean weld.....Be aware of custom builders using mild steel wire to weld your systems, it transforms the stainless and causes it to rust, if the wire in the welder is golden its the wrong wire....it should be bright silver heres a few pics of other work weve done http://www.ninjarider.cwc.net/206custom2.jpg http://www.ninjarider.cwc.net/206custom3.jpg http://www.ninjarider.cwc.net/206japcan2.jpg http://www.ninjarider.cwc.net/evolucrestar2.jpg http://www.ninjarider.cwc.net/Image009.jpg
lockys96
its just registered fitters/fabricators basically right, it all depends on the individual garages work.
Guest Rickster
yes....I seen several places which use the wrong wire/gas, the reason is £15 for 5kg spool of mild steel wire against £80 for a 5kg spool of stainless wire, plus the gas is around 5 times the price too, should be using stainshield which is argon with 2% oxygen. If argoshield is used then again carbon is introduced which would cause rust....even if stainless wire is used... Make sure if you looking for a custom build that you shop around and check these things out, after all you should only need to replace the exhaust once!!
