Pixelfill
oh dear - someone should have told Jezzy that it doesn't hit retail shelves until tomorrow. You can get it from Steam, hopefully the servers aren't too busy - I preloaded it just taking a break - upto chapter 3 so far. Mike

Homer
Its a standalone game but an online game is packaged with it (Not my cup of tea). not sure much content there is as its rather cheap at £13 via Stream. Downloading now, but the speed isn't great - 480kb/s average (6hrs left!)
Whitesupraboy2
do you need original half life 2 to download it / play it? 480kbs sec...ill only get 100kbs.....will take me weeks to download how big is it?

Homer
Well, its finally finished... 250kb/s average in the end, they cap your download speed for sure. Looks like the game is only 4-6 hrs play time so could be a bit of a short run thing. If it isn't, see you all next week
Pixelfill
Homer you finished downloading the game, just about the same time I completed it. For those of you who remember Halflife BlueShift... This is shorter. To be honest I was expecting so much more, oh well it was entertaining while it lasted. Enjoy it guys and gals. Mike
DamanC
humm i wonder what pixelfill has done all night! so its short then? how short would you say?
Pixelfill
humm i wonder what pixelfill has done all night! - Sad I know heheh so its short then? how short would you say? about 4 hours on medium difficulty. Mike
DamanC
really? worth the £10 or so?
Pixelfill
it's better value than buying a DVD. I quite enjoyed it, and will probably play it through again at some point, maybe even on hard (though I am a pussy). so it's probably worth 10 nuggets yeah, but it could have been so much better. I can't remember how long it took me to complete HL2 if say that was 12-15 hours then proportionally it's probably worth it. That's the problem with hype - you always expect more than you get. Homer
First impressions are that the graphics are absolutely awesome, the best I've seen on any game so far (regardless of platform). The engine and latest optimisations are very efficient, it makes far, far better use of hardware than many recent releases like Fear and Oblivion. I think I’m going to be disappointed with the duration of the game and the replay value, but the publisher are on to a winner releasing half live in episodes rather than a whole game. People like me are guaranteed to buy each episode regardless of how short it is
SkyJawa
Downloading now at around 400kbs Half Life 2 was ace, looking forward to this having seen the wmv file of the game footage
Ark
I was really disappointed with HL2, after the awesomeness of HL. I doubt I'll bother - I've finally grown up enough not to care if I 'miss' episodes. Ditto for Tomb Raider
Ian C
How can you be disappointed with HL2?! Bestest game 'evar' Anyway, don't miss the point of this folks, yes it's short because Valve are concentrating on "episodes"... Hence the name They can use the Steam platform to spit out 4 to 6 hour gameplay episodes every 6 months rather than one game every 5 years... And for 12 quid, hurrah! -Ian
