Matt H
This afternoon i removed my wing / door mirrors as i am swapping them for some electric folding ones. After what i thought was a successful afternoon, removing the door cards, taking out the mirrors and putting everything back together, i headed off to my local town centre. I realised that i hadn’t tried to electric windows after what i had done so wound both sides down. that was o.k. I then flicked both switches for them to come up and they did, although there was a sort of scraping noise made by both windows. Looking at the windows once they were back up, they both had big dirty scratches on them, mostly vertical like they were catching on the way up. I’m absolutely gutted and now scared that winding them back down will scratch them even more... I'm not sure what i have done, in fitting the door card back but its got to be something to do with removing and refitting the cards. Anybody think they know what i have done? I did notice that the cards where quite tightly fitted along the top edge, where the windows come in and out, but seemed to got in a little easy when i replaced them, i.e not as tight, but i just put this down too, at the time, things getting stuck when they are old and not been moved for a long time. Please help, what have i done, how can i fix this? Going to go for a cry now................
Soonto_HAS_soop
Take the cards off and see what caused the scratches. Whereabouts on the window are they?

Steve W
Scratches INTERIOR side of the glass ?? or EXTERIOR side ? and 'where' roughly ?
Soonto_HAS_soop
Most likley the mirror plugs. Surely the plugs are plastic and in the same position as a factory fitted set?
uk-rich
there are metal clips on the door cards, which locate them onto the door, you many have bent them and caused them to foul the windows
Matt H
I don’t think they are the mirrors plugs, they seem too slim and precise to be that sorry forgot to mention, the cratches are on the exterior. they are mainly towards the rear of the car... atlough there is one really deep one in a random pattern towards the middle of the window

uk-rich
yes, but the wrong side of the glass, if you say the marks are on the outside
Ewen
I had my door apart at the weekend...theres not much that can scratch the outside of the glass where you describe if the outer strips still on, unless theres something got in between the glass and strip (unlikely since its both sides), or the glass is being forced outwards against the actual door skin top (but the outer strip should stop this) You didnt knock the front edge of the glass out of its guide ? or somehow bend the guide when you put the mirrors in ? Do the windows still seal against the door rubber as before ?

I'll have to take them apart again and see what the score is
