Jake
I want to get the mapping of my Motec M600 checked because the revs at tickover wander up and down a bit (say from 600 to 850rpm) and the engine doesn't start as quickly as it should. It seems to turnover for 2 or 3 seconds before it fires up. Now, there's a Motec dealer local to me (Portsmouth), do you think I would be OK to take it there or should I take it to somewhere that has Motec/Supra experience like Owen Developments in Banbury? Also, the car doesn't have a wideband fitted (yet), only an EGT gauge. Would I be foolish to drive the car properly without a wideband and/or having the mapping checked by somebody competent? The engine has just been run-in after a rebuild and the Motec fitted at the same time as the rebuild (I believe, not 100% sure on that). So I'm a bit dubious as to how well it has been mapped. Any thoughts? Thanks
Paul Whiffin
The Motec was fitted before the rebuild matey. I'd get it mapped before you start caining it personally.
Jake
cheers Paul. Do you think my local place would be OK or what?
Soonto_HAS_soop
They seem to be a rotary specialist, but if they can map a motec on one of those, then the principles are the same.
Paul Whiffin
I'd say yes, if they can map RX7's anything else is a piece of cake! Do you know if the Motec is stand alone or piggyback?
Jake
Piggyback I'm told. Actually that's a good point, why would you piggyback a Motec on a manual Supra? Is it cos of the VVTi?
TLicense
Owen's developments. They'll only touch Motec (I asked them to map my AEM and was told that they could map it, by taking it out and replacing it with a motec. Wouldn't even put it on the dyno....) But if they're good enough for Mitsubishi to use them for their OEM stuff, they'll definitely be able to work out any niggles you've got for a "one off" map. If you search on yell.co.uk for them they're based in Kingston Bagpuise near Abingdon. (If you do use them give me a call I live about 10 minutes up the road) Hope that helps mate! CJ
Piggyback I'm told. Actually that's a good point, why would you piggyback a Motec on a manual Supra? Is it cos of the VVTi? That should not make any odds as Chris Webley has his VVTi mapped witha Motec as a stand alone. If it was my car, I would take it to Dave Rowe at Motec, Banbury. CJ
Motec, Banbury? What's the company name? Motec. That is the European HQ. Dave Rowe is the guy they fly around europe to do the mapping for "special" customers and to set up Motec dealerships. He is also the guy CRD turn to when they want theirs mapped. TRD3000GT
Ok, running a VVTI supra with a M600 your going to have to run the ECU in piggyback mode as the M600 does not have the capability of controlling the cams on a VVTI. Motec Australia have been doing further research in to the VVTI Supras and Michell the Motec programer spent 2 days sitting in my footwell refining the map on my car and uploading a refined VVTI map that motec had been working on. I do have to say.. secont time around the car is MUCH smoother now and the mapping feels spot on. She pulls hard and strong. Jake to be honest the time and money I have spent along with Motec developing my car it would be silly to take it to someone other than Owen and Motec as they would need to start the learning curve all over again! Im glad my car in running a standalone M800 after the sweat of getting the thing installed as I have complete control over whats going on and I can change and upgrade things easily when I want. If you need any help let me know!
Pete
Michell the Motec programer spent 2 days sitting in my footwell You could've at least given him a seat! I bet you didn't even let him out at night time or give him a biscuit until it was working properly.
Jake
That's very helpful Chris, cheers. So you're car is running the m800 rather than the m600? Did you have the m600 first?
CJ
Ah sorry Jake. I didn't read that yours was the M600.
Pete
I've just been looking at the Motec M800 and M600 specs and can't see the difference (other than the obvious). CPU is the same speed, features seem the same. Why go for an M800 rather than an M600 on a 6 cylinder car? [edit] Fuel calibration accuracy is better. 0.000002 sec vs 0.000001 sec Under Special features the M800 lists Cam Control.
