Can't be really helpful mate as not been to Tunisia, but here's my answers anyway :D

1. Suspect you'll get a better rate here

2. Watch for your fiancee getting tipsy on local plonk, you never know - you're luck might be in ;)

3. Turn your phone and brain OFF, not to be turned back on until you get back.

Hope rex is okay, and have a great time mate :)

I went a couple of years back.

You have to change your money over there as it's a closed currency, it's a jailable offence if your found taking any currency out, even coins (check your kids pockets if you've got any)

Take a couple of bottles of JD over there, you can sell them to the waiters, as a bottle of JD over there costs the equivilent of £80.

Always get a price from taxi drivers first, as they'll bump the price up.

Only go to shopping places recommended by your rep/friends as there's some dodgy, very dodgy sellers.

Barter on everything.

Not to be missed................quad biking in the Sahara desert, camel riding, seeing where star wars was made (can't remember which one)

Jurgen,

It's a closed currency so you can only change there and can't bring any Tunisian money back.

All the men are perverts (no difference here really!), so don't get too offended when they stare at your bird or make comments.

Port Al Kantoui - Really nice place.

There's a nice Roman Colliseum if you're into that sort of thing.

Camels - They can have Syphillis apparantly, so don't ride them!

Whatever the asking price is when you're shopping - pay a third of that or less.

You may hear 'Hubbly Bubbly' alot - that's the same as a Shisha/Bong.

Scams include someone asks you they'll take a pic of you and your bird with your camera and then ask you money for it! Get other tourists to take those pics.

It's common for Taxi drivers to pick up other passengers along the route - Make sure you agree the price beforehand and tell them you don't want any other passengers with you. Ask your hotel about what prices to pay.

Do a search on 'Tunisia' on here dude as few other members have asked about it.

Cheers Ro.

me and missus are away on wed morning just need bit advise.

1.did u change currency over there or in uk

2.anything to watch out for

3.anything i must do while am there

What hotel you staying in? Is it all inclusive? How many stars? If its All inclusive just make sure you ask for a STRONG vodka and coke or whatever spirit you want or they'll try and just fill the glass with coke more or less!

Also where abouts are you staying? Tunis? Port El Kantaoui? Me and my gf stayed in the Occidental Allegro Riviera in ort El Kantaoui. It was 4 star but in Tunisia they treat you like 5 star!! (As the only 5 star you get are Palace's) If you walk around the shops/markets watch out for people who have let you take a picture of them holding a Hawk purched on their arm etc as after you take the photo, he'll be wanting £20 or something stupid!! Definately barter with them as they want your money as they are quite poverty struck so overprice everything they can.

You'll be suprised at what something is worth over there! I swapped a bottle of Lynx shower Gell for A leather jacket! Shower Gel was about a quid from over here but over there its worth a lot for some reason!!

It is closed currency country, I accidentally brought a 10 Dinar note back with me and some coins!! :innocent:

As for things to do, we went on a Katamaran Cruise for a day from the Port Marina which has glass bottom so you can see the dolphins, quad biking to go and see where they filmed Tatooine scene from Star Wars and over allsorts of sand dunes! There's a place you can reach, I think on train, called Hammamet which has a lot of sights and markets if thats what your into. Nightlife includes open top clubs with cheap local drink etc.

Just have fun and explore but be sensible enough as local Police are not as understanding and may not speak english!! lol

Hiya

1. Yes, it's closed currency

2. Take some half-bottles of Whiskey or something similar (you should get 4 between the two of you) - you'll do really well bartering with them, my ex got a leather jacket for a half bottle of Bells, so they must be pretty desperate

3. If you smoke, the fags don't taste the same at, probably why they're so cheap

4. Kids are pick-pockets - tell em to bugger off before they get close... they're very quick!

5. Don't make eye contact in the markets unless you want to buy something - they'll leave their stall and follow you the whole length of the market! Best bet, wear dark sunglasses and keep em on.

6. If you do get followed, don't speak - they'll try out 5 or 6 languages on you to see where you're from - when they can't work it out, they'll call you a rude German and leave you alone

7. If your other half is blonde... good luck, she'll be pestered relentlessly

8. Don't know where you're going, but if you're in Hammamet there's bugger all to do in the evenings except 'hotel hop' - take some good books

9. Be careful where you eat - I only ate in hotels and the places the tour buses stopped at, but I still got salmonella!

10. If you do the Sahara trips by coach, take travel sick pills - it's quite likely the coach won't be air conditioned and you'll feel rough even if you're normally ok

11. When you barter, start at one third of what they suggest

Have fun!
