Yet another RLTC problem.

Had a battery terminal come off today. Oops. Got it all connected back up and started. No problems with the car but my RLTC unit appears to be fooked again.

Problem: Using my settings, which are proven to work and inputted manually into the RL software before sending to the unit, there is now a massive mis-fire on all settings except OFF. The car wont go above about 2100rpm on WET setting through to not going above about 2800 on 20% slip.

This is when stationary!

I sent the default setting to the RL unit and she revs freely on all settings.

So, I then tried re-entering my custom settings and she mis-fires as before.

I cannot bypass the RL unit (return the car to standard.) as, when it was installed, the installers neglected to wire it with the multilok connectors that enable this. Page 9 in the manual.

So, I'm at a loss. I can use RL in generic mode which is usable but far from ideal. I can't use my own settings though.

Going to have a word with Racelogic tomorrow and maybe get them to inspect it if they can't think of a solution.

No battery power should not have any impact on the dat. Since putting my own winter settings in last October, I have had a new battery, so no power to the car for half an hour, completed the install of a new stereo, with battery disconnected for a couple of hours. I have also completed another couple of minor eletrical jobs all with battery disconnected. My dat remained unaltered as it should.

If you send me a copy of what is in the unit I will take a look at it for you to see if I can spot anything.

Mine was okay today, getting a bit paranoid however I did use the plug connectors so at a push i can over ride and revert to standard. I`m not sure where my problem came from, the car was well hot as I`d done 150 leptons for 4 miles in France. Reading the manual it could be anything from a faulty abs speed sensor triggering the unit to ?

On the yahoo forums it appears another user had a faulty RLTC unit with similar problems to my brand new unit, just as well theres a 2 year warranty I guess !

Annoying thing is I`ve never had it cut in yet whilst driving in bad conditions or hard around roundabouts, guess I`ve got to push that pedal harder, it did go sideways in December before the RLTC !:p :search:

Phil,

The settings are exactly as per the screenshots you sent me of yours. They read back from the unit exactly the same.

I think there is a wiring issue but I need an expert to confirm this.

Shame you are so far away. You really have had no luck with this so far have you?

If you can manage the trip I dont mind taking a look at it for free. Can even do overnight stay if required.

+ No we didnt fit it. But im feeling nice today!

You are just too nice !

The modern world is not ready yet !

Seriously thats a really nice gesture, I have had an RLTC problem as well but like all these intermittent problems its hard to diagnose !

Cheers Milocoon:p :p :p :p

Sorry didnt realise. YOu are free to come for a free health check too!

Ill put money on it that your problem is because you didnt take the RPM feed from teh Speedo head, and you took it from the ECU???? just a guess.

Just been out again and put the Terminator approved settings in. These are from screenshots supplied by him of his settings. This is to rule out corruption of dat files when emailing them etc.

Got the mis-fire again. I can only describe it as RL cutting in whilst trying to drive on ice!

So, I sent the default settings back to the unit and it revs fine again.

Confused? Hell yeah.

Martin,

I'm going to have a chat with Mike Broadbent at RL tomorrow. I'd like to know what he thinks. I may end up going to him so he can have a look. He's about half as far as you.

Thank you though for the kind offer.

Could RL be wired in such a way as to work as expected but suffer these corruptions when battery power is disconnected?

Steve Single (who came out yet again to help me) says that there appears to be a wire which has been spliced into by accident. I know f*** all about electrics so I can't say at all what effect this has had but it'd be nice to know.

No I did actually tap in on the rear of the tacho head (second go in this install) and run a longer cable to the rpm wire as the original source A1-28 only gave 1/6 the rpm signal. I`ve had zero problems since then untill i returned from France. I did cane it a bit on an empty peage motorway (well it was empty and I`m paying a few euros, it slowly climbed from 130 to 150 leptons and I bottled out, it felt good though !), in Le Havre the roads were worse than UK and its possible the car shook the RLTC or inline fuse holder. It was OK after the ferry (cooled down for 7 hours) so its very hard to diagnose the problem ?

Thanks for the offer of a free health check, I`ll be around maybe on your open day, I`d like to re-iterate to forum members that i find your attitude totally focused to good customer relations and i trust you 100%.

I`m not so sure of other traders as one or two have been slow to respond in the past, I won`t mention names but it`s not LUCIFER or NIC !

:p :p :p
