merckx
Changing the fuel filter, loosened the front banjo bolt fine. Loosened the rear fitting aswell, it unscrews about 3mm very easily and then it's locked bloody solid and won't move . Anyone had this? Not sure whether to add some more leverage to the flared nut spanner and force it around, don't know if I've got much choice really. (It won't budge with the standard spanner) Bloody typical! I'll wait a while to see if anyone has any a good idea.
Matt Harwood
I've had that on a couple of cars now. It seems that if the bolt is overtightened, it flares the end of the fuel pipe. Only a little, but enough for the end of the pipe to catch on the thread. As you say, I don't think you've got much option now. Once it's out, you may need to file the end of the pipe down very slightly to allow it to re-fit. Also check the thread on the pipe as it may be a bit nasty if someones overtightened it previously. Spot on Matt! I decided to remove the length of fuel pipe running to the rear aswell as the still connected filter so I could work on the problem on the bench. I sliced through the fuel pump threaded end using the dremmel so I could remove the union fitting that would normally unscrew. It's exactly as you say, the union fitting has flared out noticeably . There's no way that it could be unscrewed without causing a load more damage. I've decided to replace the rigid fuel pipe that runs to the rear, it was corroding a fair bit under the rear axle. Not sure whether to make up a copper pipe or buy an original from Toyota. What a pain in the arse,it should've been straight forward.
