you will change your mind when you have first hand experience.

sorry, but there is nothing you could say that would convince me that there is life as we know it anywhere else other than earth.

If you tell me you have had first hand experience then i wont say you never had it, i would say however your experience probably was not what you think it was.

a couple of interesting things have been mentioned in this post tho.,

someone said when you look at the odds of life elsewhere then there must be etc,.

its the other way round.,

the odds of intelligent life elsewhere are so finitely small that its just not feasable.,

also the universe is un-measurable as its constantly expanding at near the speed of light.

( for example - our position within the milky way is not the same position as 20 million years ago ) ( also the milky way is not in the same position )

but basically the odds of life as we know it are way below zero,.

also ,even if there was intelligent life elsewhere it would take hundreds of years travelling a the speed of light to reach earth.,

blackholes have been proven to exist altho worm holes havent ( yet )

quick and easy reply,.

there is no such thing as beings from other worlds.:Pling:

Oh yeah,, where do you think cats come from, when they walk up to you and stick their arse in your face, they are taking a picture of you for their leader, and you think they are having a good clean when you see a cat licking it's non return valve,,,noooooo. Thay are talking to their leader, and by sticking the leg in the air helps get a better reception. I'm telling you, cats will take over the world soon, thats why i have two,,, to get in their good books :p

In fact if life spawned in many places across the universe at roughly the same time and evolved at similar rates in many cases. A vast chris cross of signals may be out on there long journey. One day we could start to receive them and it would be like turning the light on.

Remember that (according to current theory) time slows down the faster you travel. If we're still expanding then the planets on the outer edge will have evolved a lot less than us, and consequently the planets nearer the centre will have evolved a hell of a lot more than us!!

spot on :)

this is partialy how they have managed to put an age to the universe, im not sure how they did it but scientists have been able to see right out as far as the edge of the universe using radio telescopes or similar - they were seeking sources of gamma radiation and found the source were star nurseries on the edge of the universe - and other objects were still forming,. of course what they were viewing actualy occured billions of years ago - hence the edge is the begining and has been pushed out over time.

keep in mind too that if an alien planet was out there,. say ,. 50 million light years away and they could see our planets surface thru some realy powerfull telescope - then they would see T-rex`s and other dinosoars walking round . :)

One of the great modern theories is Superstring now known as M theory. I dont know what M stands for, and I dont know anyone who does, even its inventor Edward Witten is at a loss here. According to a report in Saturdays Financial Times, they will soon need to get funding by a religious or faith group as after 20 years of no progress on a pipe dream, instead of wasting tax payers money. Calabi-Yau manifolds (sorry they dont do one for the Supra lol) and multidimensional superstrings and their supersymmetry have had the interest and support of many nobel prize winners. As expected the "Pope" (Witten as his Prof friends know him) and his supporters in their quest for the "theory of everything" believe themselves immune to the demands of falsifiability, give lectures titled "the power and the glory of superstring", and disregard every other view. IN a new book "not even wrong" Peter Woit of Columbia Uni has followed the quest for the theory of everything for more than 20 years, tells how the approach to the deepest mysterys in science has almost turned into a worryingly absurd religious cult. Mr Woit has shown some of the smartest people in academia have lost the plot.

This makes measuring and understanding the universe more complicated as ever. I expect Witten is now waiting for aliens to land and explain all.

Scientific self delusion, just like UFO's.

I'll second that actually. The water in Portsmouth is so limescaley.

Hope it's not as bad as we get here C. You can't wash your car withour having to dry it off afterward. If you leave the water on it dries to a white powder all over your car...

And when you dry it, it still leaves dirty streaks all over the car.....PITA

When i was in Devon you could just jetwash your car and drive away and the car was perfect and dry ten minutes later, no streaks, residue etc...

That's why i use the dry-wash most of the time now.....:)
