toyotasuprauk
Hi and welcome to the site. Needing a gearbox rebuild with such low miles doesn't sound normal. Have you checked/toped up the gearbox fluid level or changed it? That's what I'd do first.
Guest jj-jap
Thanks for the reply........i have had a quick look underneath..no leaks that i can see......do you know what oil to use ....i think i will try this first as you say...as the milage is too low...for a nacked box...... Chris Wilson
It is very unusual for these boxes to give trouble at any mileage. let alone low mileages. The oil level needs checking, just looking for oil drops is not enough. If the oil level is correct it may be a mainshaft bearing gone. Manual gearbox parts are VERY expensive, a good used box will be cheaper than a proper repair. I am only near Whitchurch and have extensive Supra MKIV experience, if you want me to have a look at it or check the levels for you just e-mail me direct, see my sig below. Good luck. Guest jj-jap
Thanks chris.....i maywell call in on you.....so that i can check the oil level ...whats the best oil to put in........also...whats a good box cost these days...
Guest jj-jap
well i changed the oil today, and well its still the same..but changes gear easier when cold....and this may be a bit weird but when the gearbox is cold, its making a whining noise in the first 3 gears...but as the box warms up the noise almost dissapears?...odd or what........ blackmax
I've not got alot of knowledge in this matter but... could it not be the Thrust bearing in the clutch..?? It's most definately coming from the box.. not a wheel bearing...???. Sorry just trying to keep an optimistic view the thought of you having to get a new gearbox scares the crap out of even me..! Guest jj-jap
funny you should say that?....but i was thinking that....as there is a bit of a release bearing noise...that goes when the pedal is pressed.... ...next question....as i am new to supras...is this a mega job?cost wise aswell... dude
Just because you press the clutch and the noise goes doesnt mean that its the release bearing , i would let CW have a look , he will tell you what you need to budget for !!! dude:flame Dev

Chris Wilson
In neytral, 1500 or so revs. Clutch pedal depressed, noise goes away = almost certainly gearbox bearing(s). Noise stays or gets worse usually = release bearing knackered. Sounds like the box has a *uggered bearing(s) in it. A proper box rebuild will cost a lot more than a used box. i would expect to pay about 200 or so for a guaranteed quiet and perfect synchro used box. I don't know of any for sale though, sorry. Supra_Al
.............i seem to remember that a Mk3 Supra Turbo, uses the same gearbox(manual) as an import N/A Supra?? If this is the case, you can buy one very cheaply indeed!!?? Al.
