Jez
[OOPS][/OOPS]Sorry if this is a stupid question!! I've only had my car for a week so don't really know what is normal and what isn't. When I change gear I get a very mechanical clunk sound from the Gearbox?? Is this showing a problem or is the gearbox quiet stiff and mechanical anyway. The noise if most noticeable between 1 and 2 but thats probably because I'm going going that fast Cheers for any help Jez
merckx
It's common, known to be a little agricultural!
JamieP
i hear this alot although mine makes no clunks and is smooth to change gear maybe its when they have done a few miles
colsoop
Perfectly normal. I would check that it has the right fluid in it though. You need 2 litres of v 160 only. This does help with the change although it will still be agricultural.
squiffy
yeah mine was like it and found gearbox well overfilled, changed oil and it has helped, but still get 1st to 2nd clunk when its cold
chilli
mine is a little clunky when cold (espescially 1st and 2nd), nice when warmed up. Probably need to change my oil for fresh stuff sometime. you get used to the agricultural nature, I've grown to love it

Steve Manley is CJ's local Toyota dealer, he can deliver stuff at a discounted price. Not sure how much the del would be. Or your local Toyota dealer. It's not cheap, about £30 a litre! Don't pour in 2 litres, it takes aprrox 1.8 litres. ( 6 speed box) . Fill the gearbox in the usual way!
Feakins
Yeah same with mine, new gearbox oil helped a little, I find it clunks less if u change slowly and just rest it on 2nd for a second until it drops in.
