CJ
What are peoples opinions on buying repaired cat C or D cars. Assuming that the repairs are done by a reputable body shop and all the paperwork is in order, should there be any problems?
JamieP
if the car has been repaired properley and the price is right it would not bother me:)
toyotasuprauk
Same if they are cheaper then I don’t have a problem with it. We all know that it takes literally nothing to class a car as an uneconomical repair these days. It’s sometimes better for Insurance companies to write cars off anyway as they cancel your policy without a refund.

merckx
I am confused. Are you saying you would buy one but wouldnt fancy selling one? I wouldn't be 100% sure about buying one, you never know if there're any underlying problems with the car. But if the price was right I might well be tempted. The one Jezzybabes has for sale looked nice. I can't imagine that they would be that easy to sell on unless the price was reduced to allow for this. Jezz
That makes sense Take lots of piccy's throughout the repair. I sell squillions of salvage cars, and my customers have no trouble selling them on, which suits me, cos they come back and buy more. Its a little different with more desirable cars. Granted, you hpi a cheap p reg corsa and it comes back as a repaired cat c, 9 times out of 10 you'd just plain walk away. You hpi a cheap p reg supra and it comes back as a repaired cat c. You wouldnt just plain walk away. You'd dig for more info then weigh up the pro's and cons. ie Mr x buys a hpi clear mint supra for £10995, crashes it and its written off. Mr y buys the same crashed supra from me for £4995 and spends a couple of large repairing it properly. That very same £10995 supra now owes mr y £6995. Bargain! Jezz
Very eloquently put Mr. Skinny Why thank you fat boy. I was lookin through some pics i've got in my office of salvage we've bought/sold over the last 10 years, and i guess that cos we specialise in high end jap/sports stuff, people find the savings a lot more desirable. I remember a lovely mustard yellow lambo diablo we sold. Terrible to drive! Also a 53 plate pearl blue honda nsx with a light front tap. Now that was a car! Sold it for £19995. Now where else you gonna pay that money for a 2 year old nsx!
mr keef
Thats the thing if you buy one and are gona keep it then great, but 99% of people who find out a cars been damaged walk away.i would buy 1 but i'd wana know whats been repaired etc and then i'd never buy,if i was gona sell in the future, unless i bought it damaged repaired it myself and saved a fortune on a car that id always wanted. Guest blueangel
My supe was damaged but as mr keef said if its the car you have always wanted then it pays to save.
Ray
If its fixed properly i.e not a bodge job to save money then its fine imho.
Chris Wilson
Not a problem IF they are fixed corrctly, but modern high strength alloy steels, and their deamnding welding requirements, and interruption of galvanising on panels that are welded afyter dipping can be problems that are all but impossible to assess after painting. Gotta buy cheaply and expect to sell cheaply though!
Supragal
If the price was right then I guess. Had laods of grief over a car I jsut sold- it clearly said in the ad that it was accident damaged and had been repaired AND it was declared on V5 yet afterwards they rung up going nuts saying they wanted some money back etc etc and that it was illegal to not tell them it was in an accident and they were going to sue me. Told them to p*ss off they werent getting a penny back- the price already reflected the accident repair and I DID tell them. They ended up apologising for not reading the ad or listening to me. CJ
People sometimes hear what they want to hear eh? On that issue, I would be very surprised if it was illegal to sell a repaired car without saying it was accident damaged. Of course, that is providing you did not state it was not an accident damaged vehicle - if you see what I mean.
Supragal
Well this is what I thought, I'd never heard of it. TBH the guy was a total dick, well up himself, fancied himself as a bit of a car dealer, knew he was going to be trouble the moment I heard from him. Proper prick. I agree. I think once some one finds out the car they are about to fork out a few grand for has been in an accisednt it will put them off buying it big time. mr keef
I think if you have a car thats been damaged, you can sell and say nothing, but if the buyer asks if it has been damaged its illegal not to tell them.i think anyway, thats why i always ask and always hpi;)
