garetheves
Ok, im not a noobie to eBay, been using it years and well used to all the scams out there, but im in a bit of a position and not sure what to do. For the last month or so ive been trying to sell my phone (a Nokia 8800) on there and for the last 8 attempts some tw@t scammer has used the buy it now option to try and do me over, despite it being stated in the ad (in massive letters) that i wont ship to anywhere apart from the UK. Its always the same story that all of you have heard before about him wanting it shipped to his dad, brother, boss, gay lover somewhere in Nigeria or India. Anyway.... this last attempt to sell it, a guy has bought it with an english address, including postcode. Paid by paypal the full amount. Now with not wanting to fall for a scam i thought id try and withdraw the money and once it was in my bank account i would send the phone. That way my backs covered. Clicked to withdraw the money and sent him an email to explain this. The next day he "is no longer an eBay user" and i cannot contact him. The money has gone into my account so i think it was a genuine buy but why has been left/been kicked from eBay. He had 0 feedback by the way. My question is this: Do i honour the sale and send him the phone, running the risk that he will somehow try to claim the money back if he himself has been scammed(its is nearly 500 quid after all), or do i hold onto the money and the phone for a while and see if he makes contact with me or eBay???? Cheers Gaz

colsoop
Wait for him to contact you, but in the meantime don't spend it. You hold all the cards at the moment keep it that way.
Max Headroom
So if you definately have the money, and I mean definately, send the phone to the address he has given, then you have both completed each side of the bargain. Just because he has been kicked off EBay doesnt mean you should not honour the trade.
colsoop
But if its a hacked paypal account that was used and he sends the phone then paypal contact Gareth he has sent the phone and has to repay the money.

Max Headroom
Right Oh, something for me to think about if I use EBay. Thanks for that guys. Afraid I am too trusting.
adman
Send the phone in a secure package with a recorded delivery and put a return address on the back incase it does not get delivered. I would also contact PayPal and ebay customer services quoting the item no and transaction no and they can trace the where abouts of the guy. Or, you could keep the money, keep the phone, and if he makes contact say to him you posted the item as per you stated on the listing then sell it to a mate for half what you were wanting...easy money!! ... he'll be covered by PayPal anyway... I'm a decent bloke, honest!!
Rayman
How did he pay by paypal?
garetheves
But if its a hacked paypal account that was used and he sends the phone then paypal contact Gareth he has sent the phone and has to repay the money. This is exactly my worry. One of the ealier scammers paid by paypal, then when i told him id be waiting for it to clear before sending he requested the money back from Paypal, which they gave him without telling me. Then i was left to pay back 450 quid, which thankfully did end up in my account so i wasnt out of pocket, but if its happened once there is no reason why it couldnt happen again after ive sent the phone. Rayman
Ive took payment thru paypal once from what i think was fraudulant card, i was paid for an item thru paypal , shipped it to the uSA thn 2 months down the line the money was taken back thru a chargeback, basically the buyer paid using someone elses card and then the real card owner cancelled the cc payment. Id obviously shipped to an unverified address and the scammer still got the goods and i paid for it! Bastards! Paypal too!
