RedM
Jspec turbos. Thinking of getting them refurbed before going BPU. How much? What is done to them? How long a job? Can't afford to go single so I'm going to make these last.
Chris Wilson
I have a brand new one, (just one, sadly), for sale, not reconned. A properly rebuilt one, depending on the state of your old unit, is between 450 and 650 quid. Downside is it will have steel internals and won't have the wondefrful spool of the stock ceramic internals.
RedM
Downside is it will have steel internals and won't have the wondefrful spool of the stock ceramic internals. Hmmm, didn't know that. The spool will be quicker though when decatted, I assume? Plus, with steel internals I'd not be limited to the 1.2 bar Jspec limit. Am I on the right track? Dragonball
Mmmm.... maybe not...your fuelling will also play a major part in the limiting of BAR I do hybrids for £1350.00 inc vat - turnaround few days - to your specification

RedM
What are Hybrids? Half turbo, half what?
Alex
SEARCH!!! Hybrids are modified stockers...slightly bigger and heavier internals.
Dragonball
Ah m8 - do a search Basically replacement and upgrade within the existing turbo 'shell' to a higher spec of internals This sometimes invlolves slight modification of the wastegate and button
RedM
Searching is so passe! Seriously, I actually did and even found the answer. Then I posted forgetting that I knew the answer. The word I am looking for is dumbass. I'm not going for hybrids.
Chris Wilson
The exhaust side of both stock and hybrid turbos is too small to effictively run over 1.2 bar, so, IMO, you are best running ceramics with their MUCH quicker spool. Also, IMO, the Jap spec turbos are more reliable than the UK steel ones.
RedM
I'll go in search of new turbos then. I'll sit down for when I read the price.
merckx
Jspec turbos. Thinking of getting them refurbed before going BPU. The turbos you've got might be perfectly okay!
Shaun.
I would risk your stocker's Martin, worst could happen they could fail after a week/month/year(s) THEN spend the money, Oh, and buy a lottery ticket for insurance purposes Shaun.
RedM
Two things then: 1. How do you find out if your turbos are still healthy? Is there a test and where can I get it done? 2. How much are new jspec turbos?
Dragonball
Only visually unless you have spooling difficulties / death whine Bloody fortunes new from Toyota - and I would not recommend buying 2nd hand unless refurbed and warranty
ADD
paul, you say 400/410 on hybrids, thats only another 30bhp more than on stock twins with bpu (always hearing that bpu is about 380-400bhp), the single upgrade would be the better route to take surely for greater power and reasonable cost
UltraFlynn
I guess it depends how far you want to take it. Hybrids use all the same pipework and setup you have as standard. A single requires alot more work. If my turbos failed then I personally would get a single fitted because the cost of hybrids is pretty close to a single anyway. I guess it depends how many of the other mods you have which you would need to go single.
carl0s
you are best running ceramics with their MUCH quicker spool. Are they *that* much better? I've heard this level of enthusiasm from Jake too. Is there any way I can retrofit some jap ceramics to my UK car? Replace the manifold or something..?

Not really, manifolding, downpipe, cams, ecu, wiring loom, MAP sensor, blah blah, just flog it and buy a J-Spec if you are that bothered about the last bit of performance

Singles are nowt but problems unless done properly - and most people wont spend the required money to do these properly! The stock rarely makes 380 HP mate - well only down the pub - and quite honestly why would you need more? Lights blue touch paper and retires...
