michael
Is there an easy way to tell if something is made from Inconel?

michael
Duuno might help http://www.burnsstainless.com/TechArticles/Inconel_article/inconel_article.html Mine doesn't look as blingy as that but it's been used for a while.... nice pic though Google brings up a fair bit too I did have a bit of a google but got lost in a sea of scary tech info about nuclear reactors, then a pic of a lady in a bikini appeared and I got side tracked

bromy
We machine quite a bit of Alloy 625 for subsea valves, our customers do a hardness test on the bodies to ensure we are not supplying just 316, quite hard material
michael
its not magnetic if that helps That's a start Basically I have a couple of manifolds that look a lot like an Iconel one a friend has (both his and mine have seen some action rather than being blingy like new) and I just wanted to see if it was the magic stuff or not. TLicense
LOL we were talking in another thread about stainless tubular exhausts cracking. Inconel, now I can tell you a lot about inconel exhausts cracking. I asked a guy who makes exhausts for the F1 eninges what he thought about icnonel exhausts on a road car. His advice was they would be really shit. I'm happy to go with that!
Scooter
Just to add re cracking........the material is only one factor in fatigue cracking. The design ie the actual physical dimensions/thicknesses etc all play a major part in how the stresses its subjected to effect the manifold long term. I flimsy structure will ultimately crack whatever the material.......
