Chiefgroover
Applied in Feb with a deposit, which they refunded and said a few weeks and i'd have sky HD. I called tonight to see why it still isnt here, they have no date for fitting it on the system, no record of trying to call me, and now have offered me the 16th of August after taking £299 from me. I should have asked what year that was going to be. Gutted.

Soop Dogg
Yep, I had my installation booked for this Saturday ('cos I work in the week) I just got a letter today saying they are short of stock and are putting back my installation to June 12th. (Which is no good as it's a Monday.) Cock!

Ewen
Lets face it, if youve got all the gear and you want HD programmes, Sky have us by the balls. Leave it too long and the discounted box price and free installation will be gone.

michael
Is it worth signing up at the moment? It wouldn't be so bad if they went all HD but from what I can see there aren't many channels yet....

As I see it, its going to take off big time.....longer you wait to sign up, longer you have to wait for install. Wait too long and the box price will go up and free installation deal will end. As to the available channels, bit of a gamble as to how many will be available this side of Christmas. Im in, for better or worse....glad I didnt go for Sky+
michael
I'm holding back on this one for now, SKY have shafted me time and time again by getting me to sign up for new stuff early only to have it drop to nothing a while later with free installation - I'm still waiting for my TV to blow up as well so I can justify going HD with a new one. I just dove in headfirst without checking the depth...oh well, in for a penny ....and dont get me started on the 'HD / HD ready' screen thang. Chiefgroover
Do I really need sky to install it? cant i do it myself? If its a new dish and box, I'd take a go, cant be that complicated?
Darren-K
I work in tv's, all this HD stuff is such a pain the arse! it is if you have a shop full of TV`S and not one of them is HD like me .
Wez
I didnt think there were many actual HD TVs out that could fully support the true resolution of HD yet, well not LCD or Plasma, I know the DLP sets have massive resolution but they are also huge screens. I bought a 42" Panasonic not too long ago and decided on the non HD version and am very very happy with it.
Chiefgroover
I have used a upscaler to 1080 for all sources for 2 years now. Its a better picture but not as good as true 1080. Hitachi have been doing 1080 capable LCD screen for ages. I am concerned that some of the "HD ready" screen will only display 1080 in a smaller screen area. This would be a bummer for anyone who didnt test the screen with a 1080 signal first.
Ewen
Anyone bothered to try the BBC HD trial ? Does it work ?
Christian
We got a Telewest TVDrive (which is an HD capable cable box plus 80gb recorder) and they have some BBC programmes available to view in HD, mostly nature; Blue Planet, How to Build a Human Being etc. Apparently some movies are in HD on Sky Movies 9/10 but we've not subscribed. The quality of the BBC stuff is really good, when watching you think 'yes, it's pretty good' then switch back to normal digital and think 'actually it was bl**dy amazing'. The best thing is, we pay the same as we used to & didn't even have to pay an installation fee!
