I want to go home!!!!! That's 13 hours yesterday and looking like 13 again today then back in for 8 tomorrow. *sigh* All thats left to do at this site is test the SRST on the phones then I can go, kinda got the easy site as the others were there til midnight yesterday and still have other systems to test once I'm done. I'm just focussing on the money. The tax man is going to love me long time this week I fear.

TBH we weren't meant to be here this long, all the new hard discs were built ready over the last 2 weeks so intheory we were swapping them, booting them then testing but Cisco announced a load of bugs/issues thursday evening. Up until about 12pm today we were still considering rolling back the entire lot. Luckily the genius consultant and a seriously good idea from our student saved the weekend really.

I was supposedly 2nd line. I spent a year of my last 2 in the sand. Go figure. The forces are so trimmed down now and the sickies in it so hard to get rid of that able bodies get really reamed these days.
Your telling me my ship is nearly two years overdue for its major refit

It depends really on what you've set as your goal and how motivated you are to achieve them. I know guys who are very dedicated to their work and regularly bang in 85-90 hour weeks, and I've been known to bang in a few 25-26 hour shifts when we've been up against it. In my line of work there really is no such thing as "9 till 5".

i would rather drive a fiesta and do 20 hours a week than drive a supra and do 70 hours. always laugh at people who have loads of money but no life. they are usually over indulged sad indaviduals with no time spare to look after themselves or there family.

all throughout my 20s i worked 75 hours a week with one week a year off and no bankholidays:( although it has made life easier(approx 30 hours) now:) you cant get those years back. i wish i had done half the work, had half the money and twice the fun.

try to acheive a balance by looking after your body/mind and family before anything else

ok i know its not that easy but try!!

The locals here come in the office around 9.30am and leave around 8-9pm. I often get emails from my team leader at 10pm-12 midnight, and he has an hours commute too.

That's their culture though, and I knew similar would be expected of me which is why I asked for an hourly rate. At the end of the contract I'm going to take a nice long holiday :)

I teach and usually get into work by 7.30-7.45. Dont normally leave until 5-5.30 usually with no lunch break. Then I go home do marking and planning, assessment, report writing, etc sometimes at heavy workload times up til midnight plus. But hey, I love my job and I get 13 weeks holiday a year. I actually get paid for working far less than those hours, so all those of you on overtime payments, smile :)

The 'locals' tend to work long hours here too but they spread 8 hours work over 12 hours... ;)

Wonder if I have the longest daily commute? Living in HK and working in China gives me a 2.5 hour trip there and another 2.5 hour back again in the evening, makes for a long day. I'm not complaining though, as I chose to do this trip daily and besides I like to come back for a relaxing pint in my local boozer after a long day commuting

I noticed that here too and I don't agree with that kind of office culture. I'd rather work hard the time I'm in the office than stay longer than I have too. No one here takes coffee breaks either, very much about being seen to be working hard.

Sod that for a cummute !! I have 5 stops on the metro and that's enough for me, always been lazy like that :) I always stop off for a beer and some food too, my whole apartment is about the same the same size as ChrisW's bathroom so I'm not in a rush to get 'home' !

I left the Royal Navy back in 96, Don't miss work ups before deployment, i think the longest i have been without sleep is about 3 days. Now driving trains, bet not many of you know that there is no law that states the maximum amount of time i can drive non stop, with HGV'S i think it is 4 hrs, with trains there is a sort of gentlemans agreement that a Train driver can drive 5 hours max then have a 10 min rest, of course, they try to get as much out of us as they can, so some of my duties are right up to the 5 hour limit, but then if the train is late, it has a knock on effect, so we end up stopping at a station when 5 hours have passed asking for a rest( brains well & truly fried by then) they try to get us to complete the journey ( as they get fined for late trains) I rather have a bit of rest and get there in one piece, after all, i can carry up to approx 1400 passengers my train,
