bignum
Ok so i know its not what you want to hear but, your oil pressure is a tad on the low side, now you`ve got 3 options here, 1, pull it apart to see why then rebuild it, 2 keep driving it until it knocks its tits off or worse throws a rod, 3 sell it, end of. jza800
ok, but it is due to worn oil pump. i have driven with that kind off pressure the last 3000km if it was other Things would it hav show signs a lot earlier???
Tricky-Ricky
ok, but it is due to worn oil pump. i have driven with that kind off pressure the last 3000km if it was other Things would it hav show signs a lot earlier??? Trouble is that without tearing the motor down your never going to know for sure, as slightly low oil pressure can be cause by several different conditions and nobody can tell you for sure which, although your oil pressure is by the manual within spec so it could be nothing at all wrong at all. Things that can result in lower oil pressure... oil viscosity, oil temp, worn oil pump, weak pressure relief valve spring, worn main or rod bearing shells, restricted oil filter, i doubt that the oil cooler is causing any problems, since you fitted it has the oil pressure increased? if it had that would have indicated a server flow restriction, so you can stop worrying about that. If you have been running with that pressure for 3,000kl (did it suddenly run lower pressure or was it gradual) i doubt there is anything very wrong. jza800
The pressure has always been like this, with or without the oil cooler.. it had gradualy lowered the oil pressure i bit.. i have notice when i start it up Cold is goes to 4.8 bar, if a hit the trottle a Little bit not over 2000 rpm it goes directly to 5.0 to 5.2 bar, and stayes there, even when it goes to idle speed Again.. is the a sign off a flow problem or what could that be?? i am very happy with your write Down tricky-ricky that really calmed me Down.. i now that my quistions seems like ahh come on are you stupid or dont listen to what we say, but this is my first supra so i just ask to be sure that my engine is alright.. Tricky-Ricky
LOL! i can tell your a little paranoid about your Supra, oil pressure is temperature dependent to a degree, and cold oil pressure will always be high and reduce as it gets to working temperature, so thats normal, also if you say switch from a 10w30 to a 10w40 or 50 you will see an increase in oil pressure due to the higher viscosity this is also normal. When you say that you pressure decreased a little, how much is a little and over how long? i think your engine will be OK, but just don't hold me to that statement LOL! jza800
When i got it it ran on 10w60 castrol oil, but was told that is was to thick, so they advised me to run 10w30 oil instead, to get more flow instead off oil pressure.. so i changed to 10w30 oil.. but then i began to read about the oil pressure on the 2jz engines, and a lot off them was about 2 bar on idle, where mine was at 1 bar.. thats way i got worried... when it was on 10w60 the Cold pressure was at 6 bar (87 psi) and idle hot at 1.5 bar (21 psi) and now with my 10w30 oil 4.8 bar (70 psi) and hot idle 0.9 bar (13 psi).. so as you can see it has drop about 1 bar (14.5 psi) maxium between the Whole range.. wot oil pressure was 5 bar (70 - 72 psi) and now 3.5 to 3.8 bar (50 to 55 psi).. so in NeXT week am gonna change the oil from 10w30 to 5w40, and hope that i get much better oil pressure readings.. it has decreased over the last 2000 km Edited July 5, 2014 by jza800 (see edit history)
