grahamc
Hi all, I have a JSpec car, but I am trying to find out how to tell if I have UK spec brakes. Also trying to find out what suspension is on the car? Ok, the reason I ask is that I have just had a fellow supra owner over, and he says that they are not UK spec brakes, or standard suspension. Anyone have any ideas for me on this?? Can arrange pics of whatever is requested. Thanks in advance. Graham
RobSheffield
rather unsurprisingly we would need pics of the brakes and suspension systems!
merckx
UK brakes - the front ones. J spec - the front ones http://www.blackdevilcar.co.uk/images/front.jpg
grahamc
ok, I will sort a pic of the suspension tomorrow, but here is a pic of the front brake so long. If a better pic is need, let me know, and I will do that tomorrow as well. Thanks, Graham
RobSheffield
it would appear to be a UK spec brake
grahamc
Wicked!! Something that I didnt expect. Considering I have only owned the car for a week... In much need of refurbing though. Thanks, Graham
Nic
Wicked!! Something that I didnt expect. Considering I have only owned the car for a week... In much need of refurbing though. Thanks, Graham Any pics of the rears Graham? If they are the larger spec 2 pot ones the calipers will look the same as THESE ie. basically a smaller version of your front calipers. If they are the smaller 1 pot brakes they will look similar to the J-spec ones above that merckx posted pics of.
grahamc
Can get some more tomorrow...
Chris Wilson
UK rears too.
grahamc
Thats good news. How much of a difference are the UK vs JAP spec? Photos of suspension to follow. Graham
Chris Wilson
Big difference, much better calipers on the UK (opposed pistons instead of single side pistons, stiffer, bigger pad area, bigger discs).
grahamc
Thats great news, as I was expecting to have to upgrade them. What are the recommend discs and pads for them? Grooved, slotted? Thanks, Graham
Scoboblio
If Chris were still here he'd tell you that you neither want nor need drilled / slotted disks (stick with stock), and the best pads would be a set of his fast road ones Having experienced them, I'd agree Sorry Chris didn't mean to make it sound like you're dead! Need4Speed
Standard discs are OK for most uses. Pads are a matter of driving choice. Standard Toyota pads are good, CW supplies some decent upgraded ones (but I don't know what they are) and I use Porterfield R4 (they stop the car but cover the wheels with balck dusty stuff!). grahamc
Thanks for the brake answers, here are the pics of the suspension. Please excuse the state of the underneath of the car...DAMN dirty!! G
Need4Speed
That looks pretty ordinary stuff to me. Has the car been lowered or does it look standard?
grahamc
car looks lower... have a look at my garage, you can see a decent exterior picture... Thanks, G
Need4Speed
Doesn't look particularly low. Skirts can be deceptive. You may have non-standard springs but my guess is that's all that's been done. Regardless of what shock absorbers you have, they look pretty old and may be past their best. What's the ride like?
grahamc
no idea what the ride is like. i have never driven the car... it has a cracked piston. was going to be looking at the teins in the near future. thanks
