Mike M
Just a quick question really, what would be the effects of running 95octane in the TT. reason i'm asking is that i could only find a tesco station after picking up the car and filled with 95. I've got optimax in it now but i was getting hesitation when tubby 2 come online. It was nothing harsh just a bump bump lose power then pick up. I couldn't hear anything off the engine while it was doing it. Accelerating gently was fine just full throttle. I've still to check the state of the plugs. Fifty
You might benefit from resetting your ECU - did mine yesterday goes like a bullet again 95 in emergency will be OK:D search for how Rich
paul ashton
I always use optimax at the moment,Tesco 99 still not avaliable in my area as far as i'm aware.

Mike Do you have a boost gauge?...if so does your boost drop when tubby #2 should come online around 4000 rpm? If yes to the above, check your vac hoses for splits as it could be boost leak preventing/delaying the #2 tubby pre-spooling.
Thorin
Sounds like plugs... but it could be dodgy fuel related. I'd make sure you run this tank to almost empty then fill up with optimax.
hodge
Id change your coil pack clips (there called condensers at toyota). I had the same problem but the lumpyness was alot worse than that. I changed the the clips and plugs also removed the intercooler pipes and cleaned the out and it sorted itself. These clips get really brittle so I would get a set if you are intending to change your plugs cos they are prone to falling to bits when you take them off the coil pack. Mike M
Thanks for the replies, Throttle wide open, tubby 1 spools, revs rise to 4k then slight hesitation, then it'll pick up and go like a train, sometimes it's held back then picked up more than once as the revs rise past 5k. As I say if you gradually open the throttle then wide open about 5k it pulls great. I'll take the plugs out and see what they're like and check coil pack connections. Wont be today tho. Thanks mate, i'll get alook tomorrow and see whats what. Car's a 93 with 60k so maybe not the miles but certainly the years take their toll. mini-e
I nearly always use 95 octane in my TT. Fool i hear you say? Maybe, but no choice. Living in Ireland its the only fuel available. Shitty or what!!! On a positive note, i have no problems whats so ever, well not that i noticed. Car always pulls hard when tub2 comes in. Obviously it would be better to run higher octane fuel, but as above i dont have a choice.
Mike M
Ah well i spoke to my usual jap car specialist and he gave me the part No for coil pack clips. He told me to buy them before checking anything as they'll prob snap as soon as i touch them and they only cost about a fiver. I have a feeling the plugs are original, cars a fresh import with 62k. Think the interval is 60k for plugs. 90980-11246 in case anyones after some.
Mike M
Just removed one of the plugs, Looks like a huge gap on the plug and it's a bit crusty. The coil pack was a nightmare, tight as hell and it came off minus the blue rubber part that had stuck around the plug. Is this little hairline crack anything to worry about in the short term? also the plastic around one of the fixing screws is cracked. I'm only checking this one as the clip snapped as soon as it was touch and i spotted another one broken so i'm off to MR-T. Mike M
Wow, just changed all my plugs and clips, and i now have a very different car. It's fecking nuts how quick that speedo goes round. Anyway every clip disintegrated which made it very easy to get the terminals out plus most of the terminals needed tweaked to give a nice tight connection. One problem tho, i dropped the extension bar on the wing and chipped the paint, can't believe it, so i'll be going shopping 2moro. Thanks for all the advice guys, Mike
