Big job and a lot of bits needed , wouldnt be too bad if you had a manual car to just swap between but that would defeat the object unless yours was something out of the ordinary , you could allways buy a 6 speed to start with (i have 2 for sale ) you will need

gearbox

flywheel

clutch

pedal box

slave cylinder

prop

diff

1 driveshaft

ECU ( i believe the auto one will run the 6 speed but not vice versa)

a mod to the tunnel of the auto to take the manual box

gear stick

speedo (has the auto position on it) .

In these early days the search button is your friend, heaps of info around on most of the basic stuff and the often asked questions, if any of the old threads miss anything start a new one or add to it to kick things off again - above all pay your membership fee otherwise you are going to run out of opportunities to post on here, chat to Branners asap.

Interesting time of year to get your first Supra, be prepared for lots of swearing as you try to nip out of a junction like you could in the MR2 only to see a flashing orange light and no acceleration, sometimes its safer with the traction control off :)

There are a lot of ex-MR2 Turbo drivers on here, it'll be interesting to hear how you find the Supra in comparison.

I'm currently in the process of having this done.

I would probably suggest in your situation that you just buy a 6 speed. I would say that unless your going to modify the car's clutch/flywheel, even if you had already bought an auto, rather than swap the gearbox, sell it and buy a 6 speed.

If you've already bought a good auto supra, and want a 6 speed and want a modified clutch and flywheel, then in my opinion (and that doesn't count for much, believe me) then it's worth the risk of not buying a heap of rubbish, to change the gearbox over.

Personally I hate buying 2nd hand cars. When I bought my supra I didn't know enough about them to make an informed judgement of what was a good car and what was a pile of dog poo. If I had to buy a supra again, I probably wouldn't know much more, hence why I'm not willing to take another chance of buying a rubbish car, when mine is alright. (Not brilliant mind, just alright, well alright enough to keep me happy) Hence why I decided to change the gearbox on my car.

To give you a sneak preview of some costs and this is a rough estimate, in total it's costing me about £7000 to do the conversion. However I'm upgrading most of the components as I'm going along. I've heard a few people on here say they could do it for £3,500. (That would be using stock 2nd hand parts I guess)

Hope that help.

Regards
