CJ
Funny you ask my wife works for Virgin Atlantic.......they have A380 on order, I imagine Richard Branson will find some thing interesting to do with all the extra space just to piss off BA. Ah, nice one. I will await developments and seeing as I am Welsh (and therefore have connections with the build) and live in Oxfordshire (where Mr. Branson resides) I must be at the head of the queue for a freebie eh? Plus I know you and supplied the side skirts to dave that are currently afixed to your car! How can I fail?
skaeley
I shall keep you informed.............. on the Simulator front - Yep 2 of possibly 3 in the world that exist for this plane type. Got to fly !
merckx
Flew one yesterday, nice take off from Singapore, into Hong Kong and back.......bumpy landing due to cross winds otherwise not bad ! Easy to fly, easier than Boeing 777, and about the same as any of the other sidestick fly by wire Airbusses. I have two of them at work ready and waiting for their customers... Is that flew one (as in pilot) or Flew in one (as in passenger) or had a go in a simulator

adman
Skaeley, you a flight sim engineer? When I was at BA I used to go down every week or so during the night for a few flights.... managed to land a 747-400 at the old Ki Tac airport with only a single engine, zero visibility so I was IR landing, with a large windshear presence.... well, when I say land, I stressed the fuselage to 2.2G and blew 13 out of 16 main wheels and maybe had a slight engine scrape too.... but I got her on the deck and managed to stop her.... its good fun!! skaeley
Guys, I design and build Flight Simulators...they are all Level D which means a trainee Pilot can fly in only one of these, rack up some hours, and go straight into the real thing, thats how real they are. My last project was for the U.S Government working on an update for one of their planes. I have flown with one of the 747 test pilots in the early days of this plane, and flown most Airplanes and some helicopters out there in the Simulator. Most of the press reporting to have flown the A380 simulator have actually done it here in sunny Crawley....

Gaz Walker
well, when I say land, I stressed the fuselage to 2.2G and blew 13 out of 16 main wheels and maybe had a slight engine scrape too.... but I got her on the deck and managed to stop her.... its good fun!! skaeley
Strange thing in this game is having too much knowledge..... I have taken off from Kai Tek on a BA flight to the Phillipines (real flight) and realised the pilot has come very close to putting the plane in the sea at the end of the runway ! adman
I remember once I took a friend on holiday and she was a nervous flyer... I said to her "don't worry, as being an aircraft engineer and part-time "Maverick" pilot, if anything happened, I'm pretty sure I could handle it" So we took off and the first slightest bit of turbulance i nearly jumped out of my seat screaming "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!" My friend went green and burst into tears I sat there peeing myself with laughter... her face was a picture.... cruel, but v v funny.... As Skaeley said, its a bit weird when you know something aint quite right.... time to put your head between you knees and kiss your arse goodnight!! colsoop
Guys - In our full flight simulators anything is possible ! To be honest with you, the pilots job isn't what it used to be, the routes are pre-planned, you can auto take-off and land, I tryed to do a barrel roll in a Airbus A320/340 and the damn plane wouldn't let me, everything is under computer control...... I am envious, was that attempetd manouveur with passengers on board
skaeley
I am envious, was that attempetd manouveur with passengers on board I had some guys on board the simulator at the back once, we were on motion, so we are talking about feeling everything you see out of the window, and we managed to make them feel sick as we hit some serious turbulance and a small microburst.....we made them clean up the mess of course ! I feel a group flight simulator session coming on....my brother flew a 737 on a real simulator for his Birthday couple of years ago hes got an FAA CPL...I would love to do that, Maybe we could get a few of us together and hire one for a day...or is it way too expensive....if not put my name down he he serious. If it was possible i know a lot of us would be up for this..me definately! Ive flown the A380 on MS Flight Sim..obviously nowhere near the standard of a pro-sim. 1. Green Peace (he he) 2. I'm an IL-2 man myself...love watching the cockpit working as you move the controls...and of course knocking $hit out of either the Russians or Krauts.... And of course M/S Flight Simulator..I tend to stick with jet trainers though (you get there quicker)...and the Northrop Talon sim is awesome.. Hey, anyone do the airshows during the summer? Would make an interesting "different" kind of meet. I was thinking of: Duxford RIAT Kemble Anyone remeber an online game called Air Attack.? Used to love taht game (it was sheer bloody murder!....) Used to love taht game (it was sheer bloody murder!....) thanks, yes, I remember Air Attack. Thats what got me into Sims. Great fun As a Mac user my options on flight sims are rather slim so its normally Warbirds, Flight Unlimited or X-Plane. I have played IL-2 and I looked really impressive. adman
I'm up for a airshow meet How bout Duxford? Yeah, I'm all up for that... it's been a little while since I've been there... some of us at BA went up and helped out repairing the Avro Vulcan there, it's a priveledge to actually sit in one, its pretty, well, erm, snug!! Then we got the Merlin running for the Spitfire MKII, now thats a proper noise from an engine!! Do you think if we asked nicely enough we could borrow their runway for maybe an hour or two..... Get a list in the go and I'll have a look at the Duxford webby to see if there are any interesting dates
