Reas strut adjustment

Well, some of you may remember various posts, rants etc. etc of mine with regard to poor handling. Nobody seemed to have a clue, (here in Ireland), what was wrong

My car went in to have its springs changed today, they were probably lowered I was told..........

Just off the phone from the mechanic, springs dont need to be changed but there is an adjuster on the reas system

Apparently its adjustable from soft to hard. Now thats news to me.

The rest of the suspension is perfect, inc bushes, links, arms etc.

He is also going to do a full alignment (the old fashioned way)

Has anyone ever adjusted their reas system before, or have any details on this topic. I would love to know what the optimal settings are for this particular aspect of the system.

Oh yeah; I may just have a full brand new set of stock springs for sale in the near future.

Your handling issue wont benifit from the springs. The right tyres and a very good castor/camber/toe setup is worth loads more. The old fashioned way aint always the best. Get him to pull the front castor forward, give it more toe out and stay close to 0 camber in the rear if you want traction, and an extra 1/2 degree of neg camber on the front.

You car should handle ace. If it still doesnt, run it up north to me and i'll drive it and give you a second opinion.

Thanks chief

I got the car back last night

1000% improvement

He didnt do the springs yet

trying out this setup first

New tyres Bridgestones re050 235 40 r18 on the front, balanced

He did adjust the reas system to about half way between the two stops

Full alignment by hand .... this guy is heavily into motorsports and really seems to understand suspension geometry.

The car has never driven so good

Still requires a bit of a tweak I think

Going to try it like this for 2 weeks or so, just to overcome the placebo effect

I didnt realise the reas was adjustable and that it could have such an impact

John, I really dont think the springs will help, it will lower the car sure, and make the ride harsher, but for our awful roads std springs are the way to go.

I want a spin in your car, very interested in the REAS which I want my next Supra to have.

RE050 is the way to go, especially if you have the all around (275/35/18, I found perfect on the rear).

Lets hook up!

We left the springs that were on it alone

Apparently they were stock springs

A perfect match for the new ones

It was just the reas adjustment that had the most impact on the handling, or so it seems

We should meet up for sure, maybe sometime during the summer I could take a spin up to you.
