carl0s
I see that according to http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/general_maintenance/mo14.jpg the subframe bolts need to be tightened to 148 lb/ft & 92 lb/ft. The Impact Wrench I just bought (DeWalt DW292), is rated at 345lb/ft and doesn't offer any low or high settings. Should I not bother? Just use a breaker bar, or what? I know nothing about impact wrenches, but I was thinking perhaps they work over time, e.g. so a short blast wouldn't do it up too tight, but holding it on there would do the full 345ft/lb. It's pissing it down now anyway
SimonB
Impact wrenches are for undoing bolts, not doing them up. You need a torque wrench.
carl0s
Impact wrenches are for undoing bolts, not doing them up. You need a torque wrench. I was thinking that. I tried it on them anyway and it did sweet FA. Torque Wrench is due to arrive tomorrow, but I used my breaker bar on six of the nuts and they were already FT. I suspect my full-lock three-point-turn clunking is just due to my wide tyres..
