Order then collect in store:

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/product.php?sku=358868

Includes first 12 months of speed camera updates. Not sexy, but it might prevent unwanted points in an unfamiliar area. Stocks a bit hit and miss but plenty here in Leeds (but none in Wakefield).

I've ordered one as a spare to chuck in other cars I use, can't do any harm at that price.

These speed camera location databases are not really worht it. Permanent camera locations are well highlighted as you approach them anyhow and the ones which will 9 times out of 10 catch you out are the mobile ones which are not shown on the databases.

if you slow down it stops.... for £30 it does everything I'd hope.

That's handy. My classic road-angel wouldn't stop beeping - even if you are stationary until you've passed the camera.

Got so pissed off with it ... I don't bother with it now.

Turn the beep down to level one. Then it'll only beep once every few hundred yards or so.

That's the thing tho. What if I'm stationary in a traffic jam with a camera about 10ft away ? Isn't it going to beep like morse code ? :)

Yes, I know the camera is there. But the fucking thing is beep-beep-beep. Makes me want to rip the thing out and airtest from my drivers window.

Nah! Can't be arsed with it.

Agree to a point, but in this area (Wilts) they simply stick signs up everywhere so watching for signs is useless.

Out of the area it's all to easy to whiz round a fast bend and into the path of a Truvello (spellin).

The Snoopers have a "high risk zone" feature that keeps you informed of regular mobile sites, but obviously it doesn't have them all, and you keep slowing down for nothing !

I think a detector of some type is very usefull and adds to keeping your eyes wide open if you are pressing on a bit

Just my 2p worth....

yeah I suppose if you're not familiar with an area and you're not concentrating on signs too much then they are usefull for fixed camera locations. (if your database is upto date).

I have them installed on my tom tom 700 and I feel it gives you a slight sense of false security.... that being you only tend to slow down when you hear the warnings bleeping away. Meaning when you come across a mobile camera you're not paying too much attention to it because you are relying on a warning sound to alert you to slow down. But thats only in my driving... and I tend to now turn off the warning sounds so that I am paying attention to the possibility of mobile scameras ahead.

It's 3 times more expensive than the one I'm posting about, that's like comparing Casio to Breitling.

As the report says "You get what you pay for," which is not relly the correct attitude if you want maximum protection from cameras....

It covers all cameras including mobiiles and is the only one to update the mobile locations on a weekly basis.

How much is your licence worth to you?..

It pays for itself if it saves you one single ticket (which it will)...

I fear you've missed the point of this thread though - had I posted "I'm looking for a camera detector, which is best?" then a chat about the benefits of different ones would be good, however this is just a bargain alert, implulse buy items that need minimal thought ;)

Sorry mate. To me it's the sam as puting cheap tyres on your car or using the wrong grade oil, if you get my drift...

If it doesn't do the job properly, whats the point?............

er, it's job is to tell you where the speed camera's are. It does that. Unless it's telling you they are in the wrong place then how is it not doing its job?

Not from this report (you link from first post).

"During our tests we found the Inforad to be quite reliable although there was a local Gatso that was not in the database, this had been in place for at least 3 months which is not ideal

There is currently no provision for mobile cameras which is a shame, we know that some users don't like mobile alerts but we find them very useful even if locations aren't' in use, its better to be safe than sorry.

While the Toad Inforad isn't fully featured and seemed to be a little out of date.."

So it doesn't really tell you where all the cameras are, which makes it just about useless in terms of effectively protecting your licence....

Check the features against those of the Talex and you will see the difference...

The tralex actually has mobile cameras in its databank as well

...and as we've said, costs over 3 times as much.

Anyway, looks like you can add mobile sites to this, along with red light camera's, schools, incident blackspots.

For fuck sake, the Talex is over three times more expensive, you all seem to be missing that minor point. Do you both work for them or something or is it just snobbery?

A mate of mine bought a road angel last month, updated it, and that still didn't have a camera down the road which had been there since jan/feb time, so none of them are perfect. None of them are going to protect your license if you're driving like a dick regardless of how up to date they are.

This is a vastly cheaper detector than any of the others, yeah you're not gonna get as many bells and whistles but the point of michael's thread was to point out a bargain.
