Scooter
Is it possible in theory in power a turbo (thats isolated from the exhaust system) with an external source ie compressed air? I can't see why not as the turbo won't know/care where its getting its force/power from it will just rotate in reaction to it and thereby the compressor side will do its thing accordingly......ie any boost at any rpm can be dialled in rather than being in direct relation to exhaust gas if this is in theory possible then could the standard setup be enhanced by a external source in low engine rpm areas? Basically what i'm saying essentially is can a external source of 'exhaust gas' be added/injected to boost the low amounts produced by the engine at low rpms? JohnA
Yes, it will be a short term 'lossy' solution. These work best on 1/4mile runs usually, just like chargecoolers filled with ice or even nitrous injection.
Guest sdminus
You could always point a nitrous jet at the turbo to spool it on the line. Scott
jagman
dont forget that the turbine section of the turbo also uses the heat energy from the exhaust gasses which would not be present if run by compressed air alone,so it would be a pretty inefficient way of trying to spool a turbo, would be nice if it worked though! JohnA
You could always point a nitrous jet at the turbo to spool it on the line... the traditional way is more efficient though. More oxygen and more fuel burnt off-boost (via nitrous) create a lot more exhaust gases that eventually spool the turbo faster and earlier. When it's well setup, a progressive nitrous system can virtually eliminate turbo lag and lower boost threshold as well (up to 800-1000rpm sometimes) ....but it costs to refill.... Guest sdminus
You could always try a 2 step limiter...... it will create loads of hot exhaust gas and should enable you to build boost on the line Scott
Lee P
If you was going to use something to produce air to spool the turbo up then you would just ditch the turbo and use the source to force air into the engine instead. Lee
