As Charlotte (Lots tee hee) was talking about moderating her language at work it got me thinking about accents.

I used to have a very posh accent. Don't know why as my natural accent is SE London sounding. However, having been up here a few years now I often find my accent has a Northern sound to it and I'll often utter Northernisms.

The best thing is I can switch between all three at will which confuses the hell out of customers when they ring me.

I never noticed you having a northern accent Martin. I definitely got the impression you were one us, from the civilised end of the country. If you were all 'eccky thump' and whippets like mcanny, monkeymark etc I would have noticed.

I think I've said about three words to you (at TOTB4) but you are right. I was born in South London and lived near Brighton for about 28 years, give or take.

 The further away from home I get the posher my accent gets :conf: I'm from Essex but hate the typical London-outskirts-Romford "Facking hell the facking bass is late!" accent. If I'm talking to my girlfriend's parents (midlands) I'm all P's and H's :D

I know a girl from Bristol who's managed to almost completely supress her accent because she hates it :conf: Can't see why myself, west country accents are great!

It completely amazes me that we have so many accents in such a small country.

Martin - you are definately southern :)

That's called proper English

Michael,

I'll tell you what's odd. No-one up here has an accent yet when I go back home everyone sounds Southern!

What's that all about?
