Dash Rendar
My missus pulled up at the front of the house in our Rover Coupe today, and told me it had been coughing and spluttering and all the power had gone. I immediately spotted the problem... There seemed to be a mass of long silvery fibrous hair hanging out the back of the exhaust. So I started pulling it out... And kept on pulling... And kept on pulling. There was metres and metres of the stuff! In the end, I pulled out enough to fill half a large bin liner!! WTF? Did someone jam it up there for a laugh? How would they have got it so far down the exhaust? Rover seems okay now.

Dash Rendar
Yes, exactly like that! This could really come from the silencer? It didn't really seem any louder to me, but then again... I drive a Supra!!
Ian W
inside of the silencer or CAT mate.
Pete
Yep - time for a new exhaust. It's the wadding.
Dash Rendar
So... If it sounds okay, do I really need to do anything about it?
Pete
Not sure. It can be nasty stuff and once it starts, it usually doesn't stop until it's empty. My friends had theirs come out, wrap around the can and heat up the inside of the boot. Blistered the paintwork and ruined a dress they were going to a wedding in! Could've caused a fire, near the petrol tank too.

Dragonball
Did you have some issues before mate? Pull it all out and see if the car runs better?
Dash Rendar
I haven't driven the Rover for a while (a couple of weeks), but it seemed fine. But I reckon it definitely strangled the car last time my missus went out in it. Now I know what it is, I'm not quite as worried as I was.
