n00b
Nice job Jez! I used to be into making dance music years ago and playing with samples, Rebirth, VAZ and other modular software synths and the such like..no time for it now. I wasn't listening too intently as I'm working, but I'm not sure if the womans voice is possibly a little repetitive, maybe could do with some kind of filter at different times just to make it sound slightly different. One of the guys here gave me a load of this guys radio shows on DVD recently. Pretty good. Especially for FREE. http://stage.arminvanbuuren.com/?id=38 [edit] - It took me a while to write this reply and I see others have since echoed my thoughts - I wasn't copying honest! whats the code? Darren-K
well here is my humble opinion jezzybabes,. as a whole the track works but i have minor reservations that im sure you could work out in the track., the vocal hook is / are catchy enough but soon start to grate a little 5 mins in,. but after 7 mins ( as a listener ) you realy want them to stop., the synth lines are all cool and work realy well however they do have a vanguardy characteristic within them., now the 1st thing that i noticed as soon as i hit play, was the entire track is kind off encompassed in a kind of mid-range / nasaly reverb,. i say the whole track but the kick seems void of this,. but yes there seems to be a nasty reverb or similar used to large extent thru-out the track - well in all honesty i would lose it. as mentioned as a whole the track works but it realy feels stretched out and i feel lacks 1 or more other melodies to dance and swayve around the main elements in the track. not a bad number tho
Jezz
Thats exactly the sort of feedback i need! You obviously know what you're listening to, but i'll point out a few things. The 'nasaly reverb' you are reffering to is an anti-airplay trick taught to me by a very high profile producer when i was involved with Nukleuz records for a short time. Its for when posting unsigned, unfinished tracks publicly, so if someone hands an unsolicited copy to a radio station, the broadcast compression makes the track sound awfull, therefore unplayable. So obviously that will come out once mixed down. As this was the 1st edit the vocal isnt really in place yet, its just there as the rough idea, and eventually will be broken up and variated. As per the synths, how do you mean 'vanguardy'?
Darren-K
Hya mate, what i mean by a bit vanguardy is that there is a softsynth available called vanguard., it gives very good sounds for the producer to use - but the sounds have a characteristic in there sound.,( whilst sounding good tho ) so basicaly i thought you had used the vanguard synth quite a bit in the track.,my apologies. the anti-airplay trick,..... well in all honesty it doesnt work jezzy., a lot of A/R people from record companies nowadays want to hear the finished product mastered to your highest capability,. to degrade the track "just in case" is a bad move realy because a lot of people would just think your mastering skills arent upto scratch - in the past a lot of people would just create a mono mix as protection - but the worst case ive ever come across was one fella who used to put silence into his track every 10 seconds or so. even as a demo the track needs to be the best production you can do,its worth noting that a lot of signed tracks dont make it to a mastering studio and often came straight from someones bedroom straight to CD I own / run a smallish website for producers - please feel free to post a link to your track in my forms for other responses from my members forum = http://www.trancecreator.com/Tcv6/forums/index.php main site = http://www.trancecreator.com/Tcv6/index.php .darren. chilli
I agree with Pneumoni I don't particularly downgrade any of my tracks, the worst that can happen is they get lots of airplay and you get famous when you take them to court with the original material as evidence lol. Also if it's any good they will be interested in more where that came from, not burning their bridges with a one hit rip off. Sure they will rip you off, but within the confines of the law with contracts etc. Make no mistakes the music industry can and often is ruthless - at the end of the day it is a money making _business_ like most others, but I think there are limits. What I don't do though is spend hours mixing it though, that's a job for later if the track attracts interest. For me it's not the polish and effects, it's the ideas and substance underneath that must come first. That's why all of my public tracks are typically effectively unmixed and totally unformulaic. Great fun though, I used to take it quite seriously and even got free paid studio time in London to mix tracks (mostly d&b which at the time was the latest big underground thing) - unfortunately fell out with the fella I was working with so that put an end to that lol Still enjoy it but now I do it how I want it and if people like it along the way then that's great

Jezz
i would be of no help to you if i was to lie and say the track was 110% perfect # Hey thats what i need mate! Honest opinions. I'm glad the masses like it, but as a producer you will be hearing stuff the untrained ear cant hear. Trance isnt usualy my thing, so this was pretty much a tester. I looked at abbleton a few months back, but was scared to change!
