Dash Rendar
Ever since I went BPU a few months back (which included having the head taken apart and cleaned, FMIC, FSE, etc.), I have a funny problem starting the car when warm. It starts up really lumpy (sometimes it just cuts out) and seems to take 2 or 3 minutes to clear itself and run smooth again. During this time, if I try to put my foot down, it will start to boost but doesn't get any power... It's like it's not getting fuel or something. It doesn't happen with a cold start. Runs perfectly. Any ideas? It's not really much of a problem, but it bugs me a little and I'm wondering if I might be doing any damage.
markssupra
This sounds familiar. Trying to sort this problem myself.
terribleturner
I wonder if it has something to do with the idle air intake hose? or even the idle control valve motor?? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=13939&d=1112558977
Ian C
What's your FSE's pressure set at...? -Ian
Chris Wilson
FSE..... Put the stock one back and see if it creates a magical cure!
Ian C
Hoi, don't steal my thunder I was working my way up to that suggestion! First I was expecting a "I don't know, it was fitted out the box" and then I'd say and diagnose an overfuelling issue because it's at 60psi static pressure -Ian
Dash Rendar
First I was expecting a "I don't know, it was fitted out the box" and then I'd say and diagnose an overfuelling issue because it's at 60psi static pressure Well, this was true when it came out of the garage. With Homer's help, I found that it was actually 66psi. Anyway, the static pressure is currently 36psi. I would put on the stock fuel regulator, but I don't have one. (The garage that did the work kept my stock regulator, and for reasons I don't want to get into, I'm not bothering to try and get it back.) Anyone got one I could try, and are they easy to fit? Dash Rendar
Okay then, I'll notch it up a bit.
Dash Rendar
Apologies for resurrecting this old thread. I thought I'd update you with what happened... First, I upped the pressure from 37 to 44 psi. This mostly cured the problem. The car ran a lot less lumpy and no longer cut out when warm-started. However, the throttle response still seemed a bit random and a bit poor. It was almost as if the fuel wasn't making it to the rail. Anyway, this weekend I got rid of the FSE and had the Aeromotive FPR installed. The car now runs like a dream... Much smoother and much more responsive. So yes... You were all correct: the FSE was rubbish!

SimonB
The Supra's stock static pressure is 42psi. No it isn't. It's 36psi. Well actually the tech manual says 33-40psi.
Dash Rendar
I have been quietly posting here and there! Meanwhile, it appears you've been slowing taking over the world! How's your 'stock' motor? P.S. I forgot to mention: thanks to Phoenix for sorting out the FPR, plus a load of other minor things that needed some attention.
