Can sympathise with you Rosie, new what my mum went through when she lost her horse.

At least your horse had someone who cared for him and was not some "nag" that was left out in a field days on end, suffering.

Keep smiling, we are all thinking of you.

Rosie, I'm so sorry to read this.

It's never an easy decision to make, and I know how you must be feeling

The only consolation is that you made the decision, as much as it hurts you to let him go, in his best interest, to end the suffering.

I'll be thinking of you.

Well it's all done. I think it went as well as it could as I only heard 1 shot, so nothing terrible happened like them missing. I got there early and took him to find some cow parsely to stuff his face on as that was his favorite.

Now I have to clear his stable out and I guess throw out all his things.

Thanks everyone.

Thoughts with you now. Be brave mate.

Injection can be far more traumatic for the horse. They can't always administer enough in one go so they have to do a series of injections, which can result in a drowzy horse panicking and struggling while not really being in control of their legs etc- not at all pretty. At least with a bullet it's instant.

Plus injections are usually done in the stable by a vet so you have to deal with that, then get someone to come and remove the body... imagine the logistics of getting a half ton body out of a stable door... not easy especially if rigamortis has set in which it does in a couple of hours.

They are shot outside so they just winch them into the back of a truck and take them away.
