I have the 500. Benefits over the others is the ASN (assisted sat. navigation) which means accelerometers and gyroscopes to guestimate your movement when the signal goes (e.g. in tunnels). Also the processor is 400MHz in the 500 and 700, rather than 200MHz in those below. It of course has Bluetooth, which it can use as a mobile hands-free (lower models can't do this). The bluetooth with a 3G mobile (gprs would still work but slower) is great for traffic jam updates. SD-card slot makes upgrades / additions nice and easy. I wouldn't want a 700 because they use a hard disk instead of the SD card.

 

I'm thinking of selling my 500 at some point so I can replace it with the new generation of wide-screen units.

tom tom owners when you first unpack it and charge it up.. does it take ages to find a gps signal?? oh also in the car do u need a external aerial or is the built in one enough? talking about tomtom 500 btw :)
