MONKEYmark
Bobbeh, I heard from quite a few people on NTL that the speeds vary a fair bit dependant on area and number of subscribers. Where I am there's almost no ntl BB subscribers so I can always reach 1.15MB/sec from sites that have sufficient bandwidth. A mate of mine in an area with a much higher number of subscribers says he has never seen above 900kb/sec even on a good day. Same goes for people with ADSL, its all about subscriber numbers & distance from exchange. Carlos, MY IP address only changes about once every 6-9 months which is quite nice too I've not noticed any restrictions on any ports when running any services. My BB usage is around 200gb/monthhow you check your BB usage to see how much info you downloading.i sure eats hd space downloading fast and catches you off guard been used to slower connection taking a while

That's like a DVD and a half a day! What on Earth can you need all that data for?

GeordieSteve
But you were never said to be getting 10mbit upload, only download. Uploads are/were restricted on NTL to 512kbps (70k a sec). True but compared to other 10mb services Blueyonder's upload is terrible. 353mbps upload on 10mb
Supra-Dupra
Ive got Esat BT 3mb/384kbps, average d/l at 320kb/sec, average upload 34kb/sec Looking into wireless service @ 2mb up/down (guaranteed 1.2mb either way)
Bobbeh
Homer: That cable usage description is how it works in the USA, they get massive amounts of bandwidth but when everyone is on its shared and not so good. Here its supposed to be capped to the amounts they specifiy (2/4/10mbit) so we have more of a guarantee so getting the speeds you subscribe to (providing the hosting server can match it), well thats the idea afaik! GeordieSteve: I'm only getting 45k a sec upload too, so not close to the 512k.
Pete
I'm only getting 45k a sec upload too, so not close to the 512k. Are you getting your Kilobytes mixed up with your Kilobits ? Don't forget also with cable that your upload speed is affected by what you are downloading at the time also. It's kind of combined.
Bobbeh
No. Not downloading at same time either. 45k bytes a sec upload, when it should be around 65/70 K bytes (512 K bits per sec).. thats what I used to download when I was at 512k KBits Per sec. penguin
in that case i'm downgrading to the 4mbit service... don't think i've seen speeds above 500k anyway... don't see the reason i should pay an extra tenner
