MAF sensor removal / options

Theoretical one:

If a UK (auto) owner was to install 'big' twins rather than going single would it be possible to ditch the MAF and replace it with something capable of taking readings from 2 intakes?

Or would it be more sensible to have a setup that has one intake to the MAF and then splits into two?

Or two MAFs?

Ideally I'd like to ditch the MAF and have two intakes - can something like the AEM look after this with one of the additional inputs?

hmmm did you buy the apexi twin set up then Michael? ;)

I did but it's purely for decoration, seems a shame to put it in a dirty old car ;)

I think the HKS VPC gets rid of the MAF doesn't it?

That's one of the options I've found but I can't get my head around the twin side of things - most I've seen have two intakes which makes more sense to me (and looks good ) so I'm trying to see if there is a way to monitor things twice without it getting too complex.

I'm going to look into one large filter (hopefully boxed and as close to standard as possible) going into two smaller intakes on a 'Y' pipe (the IC pipe will have to do this obviously) but I need to learn about these things as I haven't taken much notice until now.

tbh Michael i have no clue what is done with the big twins and MAF, you know the only place to get a decent anwser to this is on supraforums as they havea fair few big twins fitted to MAF cars. Would have thought they would have removed them though.

I've been searching on there for a while now (when the search works) but I'm still reading :)

A few things have come up but most of the info I've found so far is fairly old - I need to have a look for people with twins and hunt their spec down I guess.

One thing I did find was this:

http://www.moreboost.org/dual_maf.htm

If I did want to keep the MAF (I don't unless it proves cheaper, unrestrictive and easy) then I presume I could mess with something like this.

I would have thought when your producing the sort of power big twins do the MAF would cause a restriction, on my old uk spec im sure i remember the MAF is a great big bloddy thing blocking a fair bit of the air. The search button never works for me, keeps coming up with a blank page. How difficult would it be to convert to using the MAP sensor?

It's a bit of a monster really - I've attached a pic I found.

I get the blank page thing most of the time, the 'advanced' search seems to work slightly better some of the time.

I think the MAP approach will be the way forward from the looks of things but I have a lot of learning to do :(

yeah knew it was a bit on the large side, imagine the airflow being restricted with that in place, with big twins it would be a lot worse under WOT. Good luck with it all mate, keep me updated would be interesting to see how you get on.

It's going to be a slow process, I want to make sure I have all the right parts to put on there at the same time so fuel and tranmission stuff will need upgrading - sadly this costs money so don't expect anything too soon :)

I'll document it all for future reference though, should be an interesting project, if nothing else it's forcing me to hit the books and learn things.

While I'm sure the VPC can do the job it seems to be something people install and then change for something better - I'd rather start with the all in one solution to start with.

I presume you are selling due to upgrade? ;)

Also would the VPC just be used on one of the intakes and you just presume the other is taking in the same amount?

the VPC is plumbed into the intake manifold and as such allows you to run the intakes exactly as a jap spec car would.

Interesting..... doesn't the MAF monitor temp as well though? Surely temps are going to be higher there?

the VPC has a temp sensor and the norm is to plumb it into the intake manifold where the gas filter is. although you could just tap it into a hard pipe on the turbo intake if you really wanted too.

The MAP ECU comes up a lot on Supraforums, what's the support like for it here?

I was thinking AEM and Motec might be my two best options other than the eManage (once it's sussed :))

when i can afford to go standalone, i'll probably go AEM. Theres not much support here for the mapecu at all. i direct all my questions to Obiwan from supraforums. hes the mapecu expert

Bijal at FM Racing is supposed to know what hes doing so i hear
