Thoughts on a Runway event

I went to go and check out a runway just above kings lynn last night. It looks great! There are a couple of bad spots on it but we may be able to sweep them clear!

Its approx 1100 meters long and wide enough for plenty of us to have fun. About the same width as bovingdon!

The condition of it is REALLY good. I would be quite happy spinning my wheels up it without the worry of having to buy new ones the next day!

I will post up a video of the length and the bad bit and some pictures of the surface. They are not great quality but it was pissing down with rain and i was soaked from doing some running repairs.

Rental for the runway itsself is still open to negotiation, but will probably be about £400. The whole day will obviously be dependant on me organising adequate insurance which should come in at about £350. It would be great if we could get a burger van along (i understand they come FOC) and a portaloo so our ladies can come and enjoy the day with us. (And the lady members will not have to use the field)

Clearly this can only go ahead if there is significant interest shown. I was thinking of sunday the 2nd of July with a minimum of 40 cars @ £25 (prices may go down if we get enough interest). If any profit is made from the event it will go straight to mkivsupra.net.

The location is PE23 4BL. My TOM TOM told me this was 3 hours and 20 mins from stansted. It took me 2 hours to get home and i was not gunning it as it was raining really hard!

This obviously is just a possibility at this stage. I need some feedback from you guys and gals, especially regarding dates. Please start putting your names down on a provisional list, giving the dates you CANNOT do, so i can have an idea of whether this event is worth putting together at this stage.

Count me in, great idea.

What was surface like?

might be worth looking into hiring a Road Sweeper vehicle.

Thats good, 3 people inteserted so far!

The surface is good. Could do with a road sweeper, wouldnt know where to start looking though!

We could look into the sat if people would prefere!

These events are fantastic. I went to one near bristol and had a fan bloomin tastic day. Its very good to hammer your car a bit knowing that its nearly as safe as houses. Its alot safer than going to a designated race track like castle coombe. The one I went to had significantly more grip than the likes of the pod as well.

Will put up a thread about the mapping later!

Has anyone got the facility to hold a 28 meg video for me or a way shrinking or shortening a vid???

ask Mawby, he can get them uploaded to google video and we can direct link to them from there.
