Bobbeh
Hang on TL... Look how much the government is making for doing absolutely F$$k all....a LOT more than 30 billion... The difference being one amount is going into a companies bank account, the other is supposed to be helping public services.

TLicense
Hang on TL... Look how much the government is making for doing absolutely F$$k all....a LOT more than 30 billion... The petrol companies have to invest in ongoing exploration to satisfy our greedy appetite for petroleum products...and it's not cheap. Shell recently invested $800 million in one single oil exploration block...so it doesn't take too many of those to get through a few billion... Yeah but this is 30 billion profit. That's money in their pocket. The money for ongoing research will not be included in this profit or at least I don't think it will be. The government are *supposed* to be spending the cash that they get from taxes on doing all the things that make our lives better (more roadworks, fitting speed camera's etc.)
Guest chiefvinso
I can understand VAT but why Duty too? What else do us consumers pay duty on? It is duty isnt it?

Simon K
AJI is spot on. If you pay £1.07 for a litre of petrol, 79p is tax and goes to Gordon Brown ! Its the tax which needs to be reduced ! Uk pay's the most for fuel. In parts of Europe petrol is 45p a litre. Labour has been in for 9 years, and have ruined this country, expensive to live in, full of imgrants living off the state, 12 kids familes screaming for bigger houses, errrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh SBK

Guest chiefvinso
Its duty that makes up a big % of the cost right? Why is this required and do we also pay it elsewhere?
tbourner
It's also the fact that they somehow get away with charging tax on the duty!!!! That makes up about 8p of the current cost!!!!

tbourner
lol i love this country - tax on tax Would it be better if they just increased income tax to cover everything and do away with VAT? Or vice versa? Whay pay income tax, and VAT, and Duty with VAT, and I didn't know there was things like inheritance tax until a while ago - WTF is that about!!! Do they take 40% when you win the lottery too? SBK Hehe, still more than what they pay for fuel in the US Seriously, Im no fan of the fuel levy or the incrementor thingy that was introduced before they got into power, its a friggin joke, we pay enough tax through other means, and dont forget the latest effort via the speed cameras. Thats how this country runs sadly.

Terminator
I remember buying fuel at 3s 11d per gallon.
merckx
The tax on fuel will never be reduced significantly , it would just encourage people even more to buy cars with unnecessarily large engines that pollute the environment which isn't good. We drive around in 400 bhp + machines which is just a little excessive.
lockys96
buy a large container and fill it up in your garage. then fuel strike
