chilli
i've just been out and looked at mine, I can't actually see how to get any cold air feed at all basically the smic seems to take up all the space in the wing area and the top secret front blocks off the standard feed (under headlight one, which looks a bit weedy anyway!). what am I to do, can a hole be cut in the bottom where the filter sits on? anoying thing is over the other side there is loads of cold air feed space, if only I could route the cold air across the engine, doubt this would work though... SimonB
The standard setup draws air from two places, the under headlight duct and also the fan shroud one. This gets its air from in front of the rad. A FMIC panel will not cut this supply off, as it takes the place of the standard rad duct. But a rad panel will do, unless you cut a slot in it! If you have a standard SMIC you're going to have to rely on the rad duct feed. There's no point in cutting a hole in the bottom unless you also get some ducting to duct air in there from somewhere on the front. You can get flexible ducting from Demon Tweeks in various sizes. chilli
hmmm you know what, I'm not sure I have the top fan shroud duct you speak of! I seem to have some big fan shroud thing but no ducting. Coupled with the fact I think the other one below the headlight is not doing anything means mine is sucking nice warm air only that won't do, either I need to get the top rad duct or some ducting underneath, either way I think I better sort it as it can't be good. chilli
other places like motorworld sell flexible ducting too. I'll get some and get a good feed, if only I could see a way to get to where the air filter is, what a crap setup!
