Whitesupraboy2
ok i changed my plugs today on my NA and whilst i was looking at the intake i noticed a trail of Oil (pic attached) whats this mean? Also when i took throttle body and part of manifold off, the 2nd half of throttle body that joins the block, had a thick layer of Oil with loads of crap stuck to it, like a sludge, not pile of it just a light covering. And more then shown in the pic at the throttle body. We are talking a dark brown sludge cant see no metal through. Also look at the spark plug that is out of cylinder number 6 what would of cause that?

Whitesupraboy2
A very clumsy person hey ill have you know it didnt touch the sides when it came out I just find it weird thats it at such an angle that the tip isnt over the point? also the gap was about 0.01 mm
pistonbroke
The plug is f*cked, I suppose excess heat may have caused it to deform like that, or some fool dropped it when it was fitted. I take it from the pictures that you cars an NA, if so then have you got an aftermarket air filter on it?
Whitesupraboy2
yes an NA and the intake is Standard. One thing i did find is there is bracket that holds top pipe off air box to body and the plastic arm to bolt to car had snapped off leaving a whole about the size of a box of matches, but being mostly covered as it was still sitting on the arm (if that makes sense) fixed it now by attaching the arm and its mount back over the hole Only thing i can think of is its come from that pipe you see....thats a cam cover breather i think?!? b_have
Plug is a bit worrying James, I would check the compression on that pot. If the plug came out like that, something has impacted it (heat won't deform it)

Just drop me a PM mate if ya know when u might be free and we can give it a test. Guest Draven
can I ask what the result of this was? my engine has just had the same thing happen to one of its spark plugs, so I'm very curious!
Whitesupraboy2
the oil is because of crankcase pressure release and it works via vacuum so gets some oil into the air intake. My car has done a 120k miles so there will be some build up,so just cleaned it up. The spark plug...never found out what happened
normore1
Oil is as noted due to crakcase pressure. Replace the PCV valve. Plug is either due to mishandling during fitting or something in the cylinder impacted it (not good). As suggested do a compression check.
