Yes he is right that the USA is cheaper but calling someone a robbing bastard is, in my opinion, not good form. At the end of the day we all have a choice of whether we deal with particular traders or not.

agreed calling someone a robbing bastard is way ott, if you dont like the price then dont buy also Martin has them in stock so no problems with delivery times etc etc. also martin sells at very low profit margins if all his prices are to go by

Now I take great offence to that. Should I?

If you like I'll post up exactly how much and how the price is made up.

sorrt to offend you fella, i truly didnt realise there was that much diff' in the prices between you and those from across the pond, i thought you got your parts from the states... again sorry to offend, i will check the facts before commenting so soon again.

I buy stuff from the US a fair bit, it's easy to forget the reason it's cheap is because you generally more or less avoid import duty & VAT, which of course you have to pay as a trader. Import duty is around 4-8% depending on what it is, and that's on the amount including shipping, then you pay VAT on that total (again including the shipping).

Well thats that then.

If anyone is interested Im starting a huge raft of group buys Tomorrow.

BURT :- If I had any room on the price I would sell cheaper, but I just can't do it for nothing.

Some things I can do Really cheap, Ie can you beat an AEM wideband for £169?

Just shop around, as alot of people here will tell you I'm sold on service as well as price.

If anyone knows a source for the plastic connectors on the end of the harness, I'm sure I could get some of these made up in China a lot cheaper.

I believe one reason why they're so expensive is that can't buy the ends except from Toyota (or whoever make them for Toyota) in bulk quantity. At least that's what I read on here a while back.

This is the key thing here.

There's no point poking at traders because they can't match prices all the time, especially on personally importing items. Nobody should expect a price match as it's just not viable.

It doesn't mean that traders are 'ripping us off' - it's simple economics of living on an island. (Unless it's Jersey)

What you do get from buying UK is the support and security of buying whilst covered by UK Trading laws if something does go wrong. You have to balance the two, price saving vs likelyhood it'll go wrong.

NIC,

I am working on this. I have found the company that makes them but they have an exclusivity contract with someone. Still trying though.

Guess what else I found on my Travels..... The people who make the clear rear lenses!

It would be really good if you can negotiate a good price on the harness, I for one would buy one without a doubt if the price reflected the value of the parts more closely... Until then I'm tempted to solder in a set of locking plugs for each device I add, I have my eye on suitable plugs and they are not expensive.

Chilli,

Its not the value of the parts, its the labour involved to assemble it.

I rekon I could assemble one in about 5-8 hours, and I can solder OKay.

:yeahthat: which is why making them in FE would be quite a bit cheaper.

I appreciate that, so you get it as a kit of parts, i.e connectors + wire? can you sell the connectors on at a sensible price for people like me who enjoy soldering and can just do it in their spare time?
