Car wont start

I was going to take out my car for the first time after being put out under the winter, but it did not start.

Before the winter i took out both 30amp fuses and the batteri and brought these home. I put them back of course.

A year ago i had a clicking sound but that was solverd by replacing the batteri, but this time it just does now want to start, i can hear it trying to but it does not manage to do so.

So what i know these could be the problem.

1:Fuses (they seem fine)

2:Startermotor

3:Sparkplugs

4Batteri (it is new)

If it is 2 or 3 which i think it is then i would need more info on how to replace them, a guide or something, i have never done that before.

The car is 94 Jspec NA.

The batteri is working, it was only used a month last year and then i took it home cuz it gets pretty cold in my garage.

About the sound, it sounds just like ordinary when you are starting it, but it does not manage to get all the way and start the car, i can hold the key whole day and it just struggles and struggles to start.

I know the diffirense of the sound if it was the batteri anyway, a clicking sound, and this is not the case.

If you guys take out booth 30amp fuses from the engine bay and try to start the car without them, then you will hear that exackt sound that i have right know where the car struggles to start.

I will see if i can take a video and upload it.

One of the fuses prevent the car from starting and the other prevent you from driving it "i took booth out, but i put them back and it is just like there are not there, the car cant start"

But what about the sparkplugs, dont they have anything to do in this case, replacing spark plugs is hard but cheep, replacing a startermotor is evenharder and more expensive so i want that to be my last option.

Can someone tell me how to change the startmotor and where it is located ?

Also where to buy one in the Uk ?, Toyota wants to much for it here in Swe.

if it was your battery you'd get nothing as far as i know.

the clicking you said would be caused by the battery i thought would be from a knackered starter motor.

does sound like spark plugs/leads to me but i'm pretty much clueless mate lol

If the battery hasnt been used all winter it will more than likley need a charge.

Is the engine turning over slowly, normally or not at all?

Are your dash lights dimming when you try starting it?

Is it fireing and then stalling or not fireing at all?

Give us more info and we'll try to help.

Thanks for all answers so far.

Here is a video to help explain the sound.

All fuses are in 3 30amp, but it is hard to see on the video. You can hear the sound though.

The lights are all fine, maybe they flick a little when i try to start it, but i remember how they accted when my batteri was dead a year ago, and still this is not the case, the lights seem fine while starting.

I guess i should try to start it with help from another car anyway, before i go out and buying a startermotor.

What do you mean fuel ?, do you mean that the small amount of fuel that i had left before i put it out for the winter have dryed out by now or what, cuz im pretty sure i had some gallons left and i dont think the car drinks for it self =) ?

Yeah the Sparkplug was one of the options, i hope they are the problem cuz thay wont be to expensive to buy new ones and replace.

Would need a guide on how to replace them though, and where they are located on a NA cuz i am a newbie when it comes to the mecanical part.

And how can the spark plug get bad when a car is just standing still like that for several monts ?

I'd tend to suspect fuel firstly. When you first put the ignition on, for a few seconds if you listen carefully in the boot area you can often hear the fuel pump running - if you can that is probably something you can cross off the list, if not then it might want further investigation. There are also a bunch of electromechanical things that might have got a little siezed, like relays and things. process of elimination I guess. Doesn't sound like it can be the battery, fuel iteslf, startermotor etc. A jump start might give it that extra couple of volts it needs to spring into life the first time. good luck!

Ok so how do you solve the fuel pump problem then ?

At least all i know about it is that its located back in the car under the spare tire =). How can i see that the car gets fuel or not ?

So you mean i should open that up and check it it is running while i turn on the car ?

And how can a jump start help the fuel pump come on, that bit i dont understand ?

Well at least you gave me new ideas to try out today, ill let you now what i find out

well all I was suggesting was listen carefully for it firstly, if you can hear it when you put the ignition on, it's probably working, if not then investigate further.

the jump start thing was a general comment, the can will turn over faster and have a stronger spark and thus more likely to make that magic first fireup :)

just some ideas

But if, just if it shows out that the fuel pump does not make any sound, and after further investiagions i cant find anything wrong with it, like checking its fuses or if all connections to it are ok.

Then is the only alternative to buy a new pump ?

Which should i go with if thats the case, can i ´put in a walbro pump on an NA , is that a good idea.

I have found a Faq on how to replace the fuel pump, does not seem so hard.

What a wierd car if i have to buy a fuel pump after i put it down for winter =(

hmmm how can I put it. I'm not saying it is the fuel pump, there is a good chance it is not, and if you can clearly hear it then you can pretty much rule that out and look at other things. Just thought it might be a time saver, the more you can rule out quickly, the more quickly you will locate the real problem

it was just a suggestion mate, go about it anyway you want, but if I suspected the fuel pump, listening for it is the first thing I'd do to indentify if it needs further investigation

An update

I just came back from the garage, i removed the spare tire and put my head down while my friend tryed to turn the car on.

Well i can say for sure that i did not hear a shit back there.

Tomorrow i will digg further and check for sure that i dont hear something.

But as of now it seems that it is the fuel pump, so how should i move forward from here.

Buy a new pump ?

Fix the old pump ?

Check all the fuel lines ?

PS:Why does the fuel pump broke down after the car aint used for some time, it seems like a common problem.

interesting, well afaik they are nearly always audible when starting up. Take the top off the cover in the boot floor and check that the pump is getting voltage when the ignition is on. Might be worth measuring the pump resistance to make sure it hasn't gone open circuit (or short). It might just be stuck perhaps...

Hmm ok, i must admit that i changed the dash loom wirring harness a month ago due to a part of the currently installed one was cut, so maybe that can play a rolle here.

But i did this without the batteri installed of course and i have plugged in all the connectors and groundings on the wirring harness.

So if i can not find the problem with the fuel pump then ill end up buying a new one or, is there a fuse for the fuel pump that i can check also ?

I would like to check if it even gets power like you said above first though.
