Ian C
Right, I've got an SPA dual gauge that reads fuel pressure and oil temp. I had the oil temp sensor part of it measuring underbonnet temps for a while but finally fitted it to a sandwich plate a couple of weeks ago. It was very useful in giving me indication of climbing oil temps during a track day but kharked it halfway through the day - the gauge went back to reading -61degC which is what it reads when the sensor isn't plugged in. The cabling was fine all the way up to the base of the sensor, I stripped and multimetered that to make sure. So I imagine something has broken inside the sensor. After it went wrong at the track day I got a reading on the gauge by bending the wiring right at the neck of the sensor, telling me a broken wire around that point. Bending the wire didn't last for long though, it's completely dead now So, with that bit of War and Peace out the way, can I simply swap the sensor for a generic one and wire it up to the perfectly OK wiring look I have, or will I have to get in touch with an SPA dealer for a whole new oil temp sensor and wiring and plug? I imagine option a) is going to be a multiple of times cheaper than option b) Piccy of the sensor attached, see if you can spot how far I could go testing the wiring If all oil temp sensors are the same, who can get me one...? -Ian
uk-rich
its a different design to my greddy one, so they may not all be the same
SupraJames
Funky Styling do sensors for all manner of gauges, just the sensors on their own, but im sure one of the traders on here could get you one cheaper.
SimonB
If you email SPA, you can buy a new sensor from them. I had to do this when I accidently knackered mine. I won't say how, it was embarrassing! Anyway, they sent me a new one, I can't remember how much it was, but it wasn't a lot. The guy I dealt with was called Tony Taylor, his email is [email protected], his phone no. is +44 (0) 1827 300150.
