Water / Methanol injection..

TRD3000GT

Recommended Posts

Ive been considering this for a while and there seem to be 2 competitors out there now...

Which do you think I should go for...

ERL and Colling mist..

I was considering an ERL Aquamist water injection system 2D.. BUT I know Terry experienced constant pump faliures with this kit and really dont want to go down that road if its the case. One of the major fatures on this kit is the Our Brass checkvalve !?!

SPECS

Introduction:

For those who wants a 3-D water injection MAP but do not want to spend the time-consuming task of mapping, this system is perfect for you.

The heart of the system is a newly developed controller that reads the PWM signal from the engine's fuel injector (including Peak and Hold type) and convert it to drive the High Speed Valve to deliver water, it draws less than 10ma from the pulsed line. This will enable the water injection to follow a fixed water/fuel ratio.

A 3-30psi Adjustable Pressure Switch (normally closed) sets the cut-in point relative to the manifold pressure. It just cannot be simpler for the user.

The system provides a pre-pressurised water line up to 8 bars and the flow rate is metered by our High speed Valve (HSV). This inline valve is made of high grade Stainless steel. As usual, except for the water tank, the system is supplied with everything needed to be fitted with ease.

The colling mist people in the US seem to have good kit as well

SPECS

This is our DELUXE 150 psi Methanol/Water Injection kit. It comes with everything you need. This comes with our 150 psi pump, brass water filter, 2.0 quart water tank , water tank taping kit and all the wiring, injectors and other things you need. This also ships with our outstanding brass checkvalve. This is a great deal. The boost switch is adjustable from 1-25 psi. Its a great kit at a great price. choose single nozzle or dual nozzle setup from the drop down box. If you have more than 500 HP or if you have twin carbs/throttlebodies we recommend the dual nozzle setup.

As I'm the Coolingmist Germany Dealer I'm a little bit biased ;) But I sold a lot of those systems and had not one pump gone wrong.

Also check the new coolingmist setup with ECU. Beats the Aquamist one pricewise and has some great features.

The "misting" is down to the jet design not the pressure, also the jets should be fitted as far from the throttle body as possible to achieve the best mixing/dispersal, unless you are going for two pumps and six jets straight into the intake runners, in which case your again looking for the best jets.

Also Coolingmist has now a new pump design that is specially designed for methanol applications.

Aquamist pumps are designed to run up to 50% mathanol, but there is no point going beyond a 50% mix as it actually defeats the object of water injection, and will raise combustion temps.

Tels right.

Had ERL fitted in 2002 on our old saab. and pump was changed every year. so not good at all.

dont know about coolinmist, i mean, these pumps are prone to scaleing.

i will be biased on this too, as we are one of the biggest Aquamist dealers here in the uk.

the difference in 50psi on the pumps is not what will make the difference in misting, its the jet sizes and quality themselves.

i have used the System 1s for 2 years and its been running on 100% meth - never any issues, aquamist dont recomend it using 100% meth, 50/50 is ok in their manual.

we've never experienced failures on pumps when we use 100% meth.

the biggest contribution on pump failure is boiled down to running it dry, not keeping an eye on the water/meth levels, failure not to use the in line filter (supplied in the kit), failure not to change the filter in say....2 years (dependent on usage).

most people rig their system to their windscreen water bottle, but thats the worst thing you can do, i have seen some awfull shit at the bottom of these things. we recomend a seperate unit that are not expensive at ALL.

We have supplied a large number of the aquamist units to the middle east high power car owners and never had not one come back in the past 2-3 years.

the best thing is, if theres a problem with any part of your Aquamist kit, and if its bought from us we PROMISE to pay for collection and drop off of the new unit/part. if we have the unit/part in stock we'll send that out to you while we have the unit checked out. obviously if its under warrenty.

Aquamist support us and provide us an excellent sales and after sales service, that only gives us more confidents to double up on that service.

Simple as!!!

I recently received my ERL kit and the pump has changed from older kits I have seen.

I plan on using a 50/50 mix with a seperate tank and water level detection to shut the pump down.

:) if i get chance I may install this weekend, still got to upgrade my ECU software and install the 3.5bar map sensor :(

We have ran a ERL 1s system for the last 2 years and it has never failed, we run a 60/40 mix of meth and water,it also has it's own feed..and we hooked up a little warning ligth to let us know the pump is actually working at the required boost level, and as stated most of the problems arise when the pump has been run dry.

Before running the Aquamist setup, make sure you do a test run with the nozzle outside the engine, so you verify that the pump pulls water properly and pushes it through with no drama. You'll also see the mist (be careful not to breathe the stuff if you have methanol mixed!)

Check for bubbles on the high-pressure lines, there shouldn't be any. If there are lots of them, then the pump is pulling air as well and will be noisier and live less.
