Dave F
My friends volvos battery ran right down at the weekend so we jump stared it and while attatched to another car it runs fine. Shortly after removing the jump leads it cuts out and wont start again unless re jumped. With the headlights on whilst revving the engine there is no change in brightness of the bulbs, which made me think altenator probs, but now I am thinking its just the battery not holding the charge what do you guys think? MrRalphMan
That sounds like altenator as it's not generating enough juice to keep the car running. If it was battery, it would run but not start.
Dave F
This was my first thought but it has been fine up until the lights were left on all day.
absz
sounds like alternator. is there a battery light displaying on the dash with ignition on ?
Dave F
Yep the battery light comes on after a while when the engine is running and is on when the ignition is on before staring it.
MrRalphMan
I don't think it would be the battery as it would continue to run on the output of the Alternator alone once jumped.

Need4Speed
Probably the alternator, but a battery charger and a volt meter will confirm.
