CJ
I am currently looking for a new supplier as I am taking my old number (Vodafone through my works) with me to a private contract. I understand that with a PEC (?) number I can join any other network and keep that old number. I have a phone so don't need a new one and don't use it for texting hundreds of time a day What deals are the best out there ATM?

CJ
PAC - port authorisation code! Oops... OK, and that means I can use my number on any other network?
merckx
Oops... OK, and that means I can use my number on any other network? It does. Orange told me I had to ring their customer retention department to obtain a PAC. You cannot do it by email. They also said When you have the PAC you need to inform the new service provider. After this, a mutual date will be arranged to transfer your number. Once the transfer completes, this will automatically disconnect your phone with us. You will be charged line rental up to the expiry of your PAC. If the PAC is not used within 30 days from the date of issue, it will expire and your phone will remain active with us. CJ
CJ, it's what I used to do for a living, pm your usual bills will do an industry search and pm what will suit you. Tom Thanks Tom - unfortunately, all my old bills went direct to my compnay. At the time, I used to spend about £120 per month (but when you aren't paying it is easy eh) and mainly on lots of short calls with a few text messages too. i dont download or send or recieve many pics or vids etc. Is that enough info? Charlotte
So you don't need it for texts or a lot of calls? Why not just get a pay as you go one?
CJ
So you don't need it for texts or a lot of calls? Why not just get a pay as you go one? Well, I do make a lot of calls - but usually of a short duration so I thought a fixed monthly amount would be the best route.

Snooze
I've just signed up for one of the T-Mobile Flext tariffs. You get an allowance to use per month for texts or calls. Sign up with T-Mobile direct, you get 25% discount so their Flext 35 plan, for example, you get 900 anytime minutes or 1800 texts per month (or any combination inbetween) for £26. If you use internet on your phone, they've also just introduced a £7/month "unlimited" (I think it's actually a flexible 40MB limit) internet access add-on. Downsides with T-Mobile is the network is pretty lousy (check coverage in your area first) and the Flext tariffs are an 18-month, not a 12-month contract. Guest electricmini
Good idea. Does anyone know if T-Mobile any better or worse as a provider than the others? My friend just changed to T-mobile as his son works there and can get phones at a discount. His new phone won't work yet, as they have a HUGE backlog of new customers! ( like 48 to 72 hrs just to active a new account ). So he's effectively "phoneless" for the next 48 hrs, even though there are 3 mobiles sitting on his coffee table! Might want to bear it in mind...
