Pig
Jon, is this the sound you mean? The Orange Beast Thats the noise! thanks for finding it :respect: i NEED that noise! How do i go about getting it! lol. I feel like such a kid but i have wanted the noise sine bovingdon and that was my first meet!
rik
I thought that the multiple chatter noise was from the turbo stalling, which is bad news for the turbo! The noise that WRC cars make, only it's ok for them as there's a large box of turbos in the service area.

SUPRALOOPY
thats what makes the sound a freind of mine had a fooking great actuator on his fiesta turbo and just ran stupid boost..i too want this sound as i think it sounds alot better than phhhhhhhhhssssssssssssssss:D
AlanM
I have the chatter since fitting the HKS SSBOV, coming off lowish boost, can make the car do it for a fair distance on a very slight incline
Pig
worked out how to get the sound! Re-circulating the BOV! Whats that about an actulator dave?
chilli
worked out how to get the sound! Re-circulating the BOV! Whats that about an actulator dave? I'm not convinced it is that, because you can get it on race cars that clearly don't have a recirc!

AlanM
Don't think there are any advantages, you are putting "hot" air back in to the system instead of cold (until someone corrects me)

chilli
the basic cause stems from a number of things, possibly fitting a less restrictive intake (cone filter etc) and have a dump valve that can't cope with the boost taken from here http://www.fiestaturbo.com/articles/rsttuning/ >A side effect of this is that if the car is run without a dump valve the turbo blades stall slightly between gear changes and the airflow is amplified through the filter producing a loud fluttering 'chatter' noise. which is my understanding, it is turbo stall... Pig
Surely someone has the answer to this! There are so many experts out there! I described to noise on the phone to one tuner and he has suggested re-circulating the dump. So what is it with the "actu thing me" dave is on about???? Homer
Jon, why not have a chat with Terry? You got your kit off him (I assume) so he should be able to answer you right away.

chilli
lol that explanation does agree with my own experience too, because whilst the actuator was uprated, an aftermarket induction was fitted, from that point on it always made the sound without any special driving, not saying you need either, but it is probably the combination of the two that make the noise... but other setups maybe can achieve similar sounds
Pig
take the blow of valve of and you will have the noise your after Surely the others that get the noise wouldnt run the car with out a BOV as this would be really bad for the turbo?? Homer
try reading the posts!!!!! Was that for me, re your 20.25 post? While in theory this sounds fine (and makes sense) its not what I've heard mentioned on the forum here as the cause of the 'fluttery' sound most singles make. Almost all posts refer to it as wastegate chater, not turbo stall. I'd just like someone who knows their single setups inside-out to confirm this as the reason (eg Terry). I don't mean any disrespect mate.
chilli
not without no, an overrun bov or any reason for turbo stall could start to introduce that noise

I don't mean any disrespect mate. hey no probs I'm only trying to help and relay my experiences on a car that didn't do it and then did it on demand after some simple mods (and it was single lol by design). Like I say, there may be more than one way to achieve it. Major turbo stall is potentially bad for the turbo life, but on my set up it did no harm. PS was aimed at pig more than anyone else anyway!
