SuperSupra
Went microlighting at the weekend, how much fun is that!!!!! In a tiny little sidecar type thing with wings and a small engine, you don't half feel it when you start off though! Got some real power for a little machine! Flew over Liverpool and felt very strange looking down at all the little buildings. Was so strange because it didn't feel like I was flying, can't really explain it. Great fun though, highly recommended to anyone who doesn't have a fear of heights Anyone else done it?

SuperSupra
No no no no no. Didn't think you'd like it! It's ok to be scared and be a big girl's blouse, that's fine, really
Supragal
Nope would love to though what sort of training do you have to do to fly solo ??? none, thats the problem! You can just get one. No licence, nothing. Someone fell through the blades of a landed helicopter recently didn't they doing something mad like this or paragliding? SuperSupra
Nope would love to though what sort of training do you have to do to fly solo ??? Have to do loads and loads. The guy who took me up is a pro instructor, if I remember correctly he said 30 hours of tuition before you go solo. You can control the thing on your first time if you feel comfortable but to go solo is pretty tricky I reckon. Pretty cheap too, lessons from as little as 50 squids

Pretty sure you need training before doing this solo!

Maybe he was talking about tandem flights or something, I guess I wasn't listening!!!
SuperSupra
In all honestly I'm sure it's brilliant, I'd probably have a great time but it's just not worth even trying for the risk of that moment of "oh, I'm going to die" and then dying. It's funny that, cos so many people have said "were you scared?" and honestly I really wasn't. It's not just because I like heights, but I felt very safe, buckled in, and the flight is very smooth. And there are virtually no accidents in microlighting, unless you're a retard and go on your own without training!

Yeah that'd be it, the tandem flight is what I did, you can take the controls, but not fly the thing by yourself, that'd be scary
Jake
What's it called, those hang gliders with a small engine? I'd love a go at that!

Think there are a few things that could be what you mean but the microlight is basically two seats, a horizontal bar to steer with, 3 wheels and wings. Sound about right? It's great fun mate http://www.tripping.net/img/elsewhere/Microlight.jpg Mine was a bit more enclosed than this though, with sides and stuff! Mcgoo
Couple of my mates fly them and i went up for the first time a couple of weeks ago...it is good. And your right its not at all scarey you somehow feel detached or something. I'm not that good up a ladder or anything like that but this was fine. That's the word I guess I was looking for - detached. It's strange, feels like you're watching someone else do it. I love heights anyway so it was great. Going skydiving next month too

Get to your nearest place and try it, great experience, and you see the world from a place you ordinarily wouldn't get the chance to. Supragal
That's the thing! How much fun does that look! Actually, fear of dying aside it just doesn't interest me. Looks, dunno, just not for me I guess. They are cheap though, you can get them for about 3k. Obviously new spanky ones are loads more. As you can see from the pic above, it was "cozy", the back of his seat was between my legs, my legs around his sides, and his elbows resting on my knees! Very.....interesting......liberating you might say!
